Flabébé (Japanese: フラベベ Flabebe) is a Fairy-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.

It evolves into Floette starting at level 19, which evolves into Florges when exposed to a Shiny Stone. Flabébé also has five separate forms, each named for the color of its flower: Red Flower, Yellow Flower, Orange Flower, Blue Flower, and White Flower.

Biology

Flabébé is a small, fairy-like Pokémon. Its head, upper torso, and stubby arms are white, and its lower body is light green, ending in a peduncle-like tail. It has beady eyes, a small, pointed nose, a pink blush mark on each cheek, and heart-shaped ears. It wears a crown made of interwoven yellow pollen balls. Flabébé is a female-only species with no male counterpart, as well as one of the shortest and lightest Pokémon in existence.

Notably, Flabébé is usually seen riding a flower, called a "Fairy Flower" in the Pokémon the Series: XY episode To Find a Fairy Flower!. The flower has a short, light green peduncle with three small leaves, three stamens with rounded, yellow anthers, a yellow pistil, and five rounded petals, which can be red, yellow, orange, blue, or white. After birth, it will immediately search around for a flower that has the shape and color it wants; once it finds the one, Flabébé will care for it for the rest of its life. The flower that Flabébé holds is so intrinsically connected to Flabébé that it is thought to be a part of its body. The different forms of Flabébé are described as particularly fond of certain flower colors, except for White Flower Flabébé.

Flabébé is able to draw forth the power hidden within flowers in order to use a variety of moves and fend for itself; in return, it gives them some of its own energy. From the flower it holds, Flabébé collects a special pollen with healing properties to craft its crown and directs power to float upward in currents of air. As seen in the Pokémon Journeys: The Series episode Under Color of Darkness!, Flabébé becomes unable to properly float around if one of the petals on its flower falls off.

Prior to Generation VII, Flabébé and its evolved forms were the only known Pokémon that could have Flower Veil and Symbiosis as Abilities.

Forms

Flabébé has five separate forms: Red Flower, Yellow Flower, Orange Flower, Blue Flower, and White Flower.

According to Professor Oak's Pokémon Holo Caster and Gurkinn in A Festival Reunion!, White Flower Flabébé is particularly rare and difficult to find.

Form data

Flabébé has five separate forms, each with one of five different flower colors: Red Flower, Yellow Flower, Orange Flower, Blue Flower, and White Flower. The flower color is maintained through Evolution into Floette and then Florges, and cannot be changed. Hatched Flabébé have the same flower color as their mother.

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Red and Blue Flower Flabébé can only be obtained by breeding Red and Blue Flower Floette, respectively. In all other games in which the Flabébé evolutionary line is present, all forms of Flabébé can be caught in the wild.

In the Generation VI and VII games, Flabébé and its evolved forms can only have their Hidden Ability Symbiosis if caught in the Friend Safari or through SOS Battles, respectively. This means that Orange and White Flower Flabébé, Floette, and Florges cannot have their Hidden Ability in Generation VI, and the same is true for Blue Flower Flabébé, Floette, and Florges caught in Generation VII.

In Pokémon GO, the various forms of Flabébé, and by extension their evolutionary forms, have varied appearances depending on which region the game is at: Yellow Flower Flabébé is found in the Americas, while Red Flower Flabébé is found in Asia-Pacific regions and Blue Flower Flabébé is found in Europe, Africa, and the Middle-East. Orange and White Flower Flabébé are technically found everywhere, but are considered rare spawns.

In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, only Red Flower Flabébé is available.

Trivia

Origin

Flabébé appears to be based on fairies and nymphs, in particular Antheia due to its flower wreath-like "crown" upon its head, as well as possibly Chloris. It may have also been inspired by the concept of insect pollination, considering its small stature and grasp upon the flower's female organ, the stigma — its wreath also resembles the clumps of pollen that gathers on the bodies of pollinator insects.

Name origin

Flabébé may be a combination of フラワー furawā (flower) and bébé (French for baby).
