Pheromosa (Japanese: フェローチェ Pheroache) is a dual-type Bug/Fighting Ultra Beast introduced in Generation VII.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

It is code named UB-02 Beauty (Japanese: UB02 Beauty).

Biology

Pheromosa is an Ultra Beast that resembles a feminine anthropomorphic cockroach. It is primarily white with a thin build. Its torso is composed of five thin discs that droop slightly downward. The widest disc makes up its shoulders, the second widest its hips, and the two smallest its chest and waist. There is a gold ovoid inside of the widest disc, where its long, thin neck protrudes from. Its arms and legs are also long and thin with gold joints. Its hands and feet are both composed of two golden claws. Pheromosa has a small, semi-flattened head with a yellow, crown-like structure on top. The two tallest points of the crown point to its long, thin antennae, which are white with small gold balls at the tips. Attached to the back of its head are two structures resembling insect wings. The wings are transparent, curve slightly inward, and reach nearly to the ground. It has narrow, purple eyes with bright blue pupils.

Pheromosa live in another world named Ultra Desert. Pheromosa's speed is believed to be fast enough to dodge lightning[1]. It displays a considerable reluctance towards touching anything as if it interprets the Pokémon world as being unclean somehow. According to Wicke from the Aether Foundation, Pheromosa can reach speeds exceeding 120 mph [200 km/h] in just an instant. This speed is greater than any other living creature that has been discovered to date. But its most distinctive features may in fact be its beauty and its powerful pheromones. Most any creature that squares off against Pheromosa becomes confused, as if struck by the beast’s beauty, and loses the will to fight. It is still a subject of research, but it’s thought that Pheromosa may possess some sort of organ able to produce a pheromonal substance previously unknown to science.

Wicke also claims that like all Ultra Beasts, Pheromosa stores the same energy possessed by Totem Pokémon within its body, which takes the form of a red, flaring aura[2]. This energy is called Z-Power.

Ultra Sun A life-form that lives in another world, its body is thin and supple, but it also possesses great power.
Ultra Moon Although it's alien to this world and a danger here, it's apparently a common organism in the world where it normally lives.

Major appearances

Pheromosa (anime)

Pheromosa debuted in Beauty is Only Crystal Deep!, where it arrived in Alola through an Ultra Wormhole. It started attacking Trainers who possessed Z-Crystals and stole them, eventually building up a collection. Meowth later developed a crush on it and prevented the Ultra Guardians from catching it. Pheromosa was eventually defeated by Bewear, which allowed the Ultra Guardians to catch it and return it home.

Pokémon Adventures

Pheromosa debuted as a silhouette in The Final Match and a Surprising Finale!.

Pheromosa physically debuted in A Raid and Po Town. It was one of the Ultra Beasts used by Guzma to attack the invading Trial Captains and Hau at Po Town before later escaping to cause havoc on the rest of Ula'ula Island. It reappeared in Confusion and Monsters from Another World, Truth and the Mastermind Behind Team Skull, and Thieving and Boss Crabominable; and in a flashback in An Urgent Task and the Capture of an Ultra Beast.

Multiple Pheromosa appeared in Summon the Emissaries of the Moon and the Sun.

Trivia

  • Pheromosa and Buzzwole are the only Ultra Beasts that share a type combination.
  • Pheromosa has the highest base Speed stat of all Fighting-type Pokémon.
  • In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Pheromosa has a catch rate of 255 and a base experience yield of 114.
    • Due to Beast Balls having a 5× catch rate modifier against Ultra Beasts, this means that they can never fail to catch a Pheromosa in Sun and Moon.
  • Pheromosa was the inspiration for the naming of Nocticola pheromosa, a species of cockroach first discovered in Singapore and described in 2023 by entomologists Foo Maosheng and Cristian C. Lucañas.[3][4] According to Foo, he and his collaborator are both Pokémon fans, and the cockroach was named after Pheromosa due to both having similar features, such as long antennae, hood-like wings, and long slender legs.[5]

Origin

Pheromosa may be based on an American cockroach that has molted, which causes it to be white in color, and may also draw inspiration from a copepod. It also resembles a fashion model, given its idle pose, and its body resembling an artful set of clothes. Pheromosa's overall design and personality seems to contrast the real world perception of cockroaches, which tend to be considered creepy and unclean.

Name origin

Pheromosa may be a combination of pheromone and hermosa (Spanish for beautiful) or formosa (Italian for shapely; Portuguese for beautiful).

Pheroache may be a combination of pheromone, feroce (Italian for fierce), and cockroach.
