Description | Said to be the top Gym Leader in Sinnoh, Volkner is a passionate Trainer always looking for thrilling battles. He renovates his Gym while waiting for worthy challengers. |
Volkner (Japanese: デンジ Denzi) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series games. He forms a sync pair with Luxray. He was first introduced in the story event The Eccentric Electrician. The sync pair can be obtained through the sync pair scout from September 30, 2020. The pair's potential can be upgraded to 6★ EX from the time the pair was first released, which unlocks Volkner's EX style.
Volkner is also available in his New Year attire partnered alongside Electivire. The pair could be obtained through a limited-time seasonal sync pair scout and was first available on January 1, 2022. This pair is also capable of being upgraded to 6★ EX from when the pair was first released.
Volkner also forms a sync pair with his Raichu. This pair can be obtained by reaching Friendship Level 100 with Volkner in the Trainer Lodge beginning on January 1, 2024. This pair can be raised to 6★ EX since it first released, though this pair lacks an EX style.

Trivia
- Volkner & Luxray were the first sync pair to be able to set terrain.
- They are also the only non-limited sync pair able to set Electric Terrain.
- All versions of Volkner use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers include Flint, Clemont, Sophocles, and Molayne.
- Prior to version 2.22.0, there was a spacing issue with all Trainer names that contain apostrophes, including Volkner (New Year's 2022): in level-up screens, these names each had a single-character-long gap between their apostrophe and the letter S. For example, New Year's 2022 was displayed as "New Year' s 2022."
- Unlike other seasonal sync pairs whose sync pair stories are the same as the story areas from their event, Volkner (New Year's 2022)'s sync pair stories are displayed in reverse chronological order on his Sync Pair Stories screen; the final area is listed first, the second to last area is listed second, and so on.
- In the story event Shine a Gentle Light, it is mentioned that Volkner met Jasmine during her time in Sunyshore City.
Origin
Volkner's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Luxray is Volkner's signature Pokémon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Luxray's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Pearl.
Volkner uses a Raichu on most of his teams in the core series games. Raichu's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun
Electivire is Volkner's signature Pokémon in Pokémon Platinum. Electivire's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
