Welcome to Bulbapedia, FolksCallMeHilbert!

By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Take a look at our FAQ. If you're still stuck, ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

Link templates

FYI, some things like Pokemon do not have pages directly at their name, like "Rockruff", their pages are at "Rockruff (Pokemon)". So if you just link Rockruff, that's a redirect; it's better to link directly to the correct title, which you can do with {{p|Rockruff}}. You may even have seen some of these being used when you've edited. There's a few other such simple templates for other things like moves and Abilities, try to familiarize yourself with the most basic ones like that if you can. Thanks! Thank you for pointing that out to me! I admit that my last group of edits felt a bit rushed, and I did not think to include that. I will try to be more meticulous with future edits. FolksCallMeHilbert (talk) 23:03, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hey there! Since this is a needed article, I'm going to move it to the mainspace. It looks so good so far! I think having it there will help other people see it to add some of the content that you're missing. MaverickNate 01:36, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

In-battle quotes

This may be a preference question, but I've always thought the in-battle quotes should be separated instead of piled under an "in-battle" asterisk. That's how it's previously been. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 08:06, 2 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

My main reason for implementing these changes is to hopefully make it easier for readers to follow. The way I see it, the bullet points are meant to convey dialogue progression in a chronological sort of way. The battles themselves occur between certain dialogue, but the dialogue contained within that battle may be presented in random order, if they are even activated at all. So, in a loose sense, it's almost treating them like dialogue options (which are formatted with bold text and indentation). I believe it also helps alleviate quote pages from having an excess of bullet points under certain location sections, especially for notable Trainers in SwSh and SV which have a lot more in-battle quotes than Trainers in previous generations. Hop's quote page already has his in-battle quotes formatted under single asterisks; since he has so much dialogue already, the formatting highlights his battle quotes at a glance. I had been planning to edit Hop's battle quotes to be the other way, but never got around to doing it. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 07:54, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Vessa

I saw that you had added the {{incomplete}} tag to Vessa's page. You also forgot to mention a reason. Is there anything specific that the page is missing? After your major update, it feels pretty complete to me. If there's anything specific you want added to the page, can you specify it in the reason on the incomplete tag, or remove it and the {{stub}} tag altogether? → PikaTepig999 20:14, 8 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for leaving out the reason. I went and adjusted the template to address what's still needed. FolksCallMeHilbert (talk) 03:19, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Merging cells in shop tables

Hey! I super appreciate the little improvements you've been making to the Masters event pages, like 4-digit ndex padding and table rounding—I try to do some of that myself, but I get bored of it too quickly lol. So thank you for that! However, I noticed that in a few of your recent edits, you've been merging the cells in the shop exchange tables when the maximum number of exchanges is the same in subsequent rows. That was the old standard for shop tables, but in recent months I've been deliberately removing that kind of thing because it makes the table harder to read in my opinion. So I was wondering why you're re-merging the cells now. (I've also had the idea in the back of my mind for a while to templatize the shop tables, and I've been thinking about moving forward with that since I've noticed a few cases lately of little errors in shop tables like item names not matching the images. I feel like it'd be easier to make the template if each max exchange amount is only a single row.) Storm Aurora (talk) 00:14, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome! I like doing maintenance like that, so it's no problem. Regarding the cell merging in the shop tables, I tried to replicate the style from older event pages when I found cells that were all individualized—I didn't realize this was an intended decision. With the way the tables are currently set up, I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to have identical adjacent entries in the last column combined into one cell, I think it reads similar to a flowchart just with a little less repetition of info. However, if the plan is to templatize it (which I second, I agree it would make things a lot easier in the long run), keeping the rows independent of each other works just as fine. Pokémon Masters Day music

Heyo, I was just looking again at the edit you made to Pokémon Masters Day/2023 last month where you added a music table to the page. I super appreciate you adding it, but I was wondering if you have a source for the statement that Battle! (Wild Pokémon: Paldea) was added to the song pool on August 25, 2023? As I recall, that remix was added to the game for the Paldea starter egg event, which was in September 2023. So I don't think that remix was in the game in August? I could be wrong, though. I remember noting at one point that they'd added the Paldea wild battle music into the rotation, but I don't know when that was... Storm Aurora (talk) 20:32, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I was under the impression that all newly-introduced music tracks for an upcoming monthly update were present in the games files at the time of the update? Version 2.36.0 released on August 24, 2023, so although I'm not entirely sure if it was used during the battles or not, the track itself did exist by August 2023's Pokémon Masters Day. FolksCallMeHilbert (talk) 21:38, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK, so yeah, the music was in the game files then, but that doesn't guarantee it was used then (I'd bet it wasn't, because the data for August 25's Pokémon Masters Day would've been included in the update at the end of July). The best way to tell would be to find video footage of it, but unfortunately, most people don't bother posting their Pokémon Masters Day co-op battles on YouTube. The earliest gameplay I was able to find with the Paldea wild battle music was from December 25, 2023, but I only found like one video for each day, so I don't have a lot of data points to go off of. I feel like the most accurate thing to do would be to change the note to say something like "this was added to the pool in late 2023 but the exact date is unknown" Storm Aurora (talk) 05:08, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
That makes sense. I didn't have much luck finding a video example either, so I went ahead and changed the note so it's more accurate. Thanks for bringing it up! FolksCallMeHilbert (talk) 05:54, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome!

While I'm replying, I also have an idea. Been doing some general reading lately, and over the years I've enjoyed how the Dex entries and lore etc mention rivalries between particular species. Like how Zangoose and Seviper are mortal enemies. Also noticed mentions of rivalries between Salamence and Garchomp, as well as Skarmory and Corviknight when it comes to hunting. I thought there might be a page that lists and details the rivalries that exist but the closest I've found is the Rival page, which is focused more on the player's rivals, and similar in the anime etc. There's a subsection there about rivalries between Pokemon but it's specifically about particular Pokemon in the show. There may not be enough rivalries to warrant it, but just thought I'd float the idea. This could maybe even just be another subsection on that page under the core series games. Stevenwave (talk) 15:25, 2 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome for the welcome! Welcome (again) to Bulbapedia! We currently have a page on Pokémon predation which has a section dedicated to species rivalries as described in the core series games, which also include the examples that you mentioned. I hope that is the kind of thing you were looking for with regard to rivalries! FolksCallMeHilbert (talk) 01:11, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ha thanks! Ah yeah cool, that's exactly what I meant. I guess it can just be tough to know exactly what to search for when looking for something like this. Even knowing which page this is on, just searching "rival" or "rivals", everything focuses more on the people rivals etc.
Maybe the Dex entries that refer to this stuff could link to that central predation/rivals section. I checked out how to format it all correctly and added the link within Garchomp's Ultra Sun Dex entry to see whatcha think. Before I did, I looked at some other species' pages to see if linking within Dex entries was a thing, and saw that Pidgey refers to Whirlwind and there's a link to that, so I figured it'd be okay to do. Unwelcoming language on Template:User Walk

I'm going to second (or third) the stance in the talk section of this page. The comment only serves to make us non-cisgender folk a bit uncomfortable. If you have the time to modify the page that would be appreciated. Sorry if this isn't an appropriate channel. Thesea251 (talk) 18:53, 10 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for the delayed response. No worries about reaching out here! Given the template's protection status, commenting on the template's talk page or reaching out to staff directly are both acceptable avenues for communication. I could not handle it earlier due to work, but regardless any available staff at the time was made aware of the issue due to the talk page activity, so communicating at all definitely helps! The description should be phrased better now! FolksCallMeHilbert (talk) 23:34, 10 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
