The Master of the Dragon Tamer Clan (Japanese: ドラゴンつかいいちぞくのちょうろうさま Master of the Dragon Tamer Clan), often simply referred to as the Master (Japanese: ちょうろうさま the Master), is the leader of a secret society that worships Dragon-type Pokémon. He lives in the Dragon's Den, which is located north of Blackthorn City in Johto.

In the English release of Pokémon Crystal, he's called the Master of the Dragon User Clan. In the Pokémon Adventures editions released in English, he's known as the Dragon Clan Elder.

Lyra and the Master

The Master of the Dragon Tamer Clan appears in Pokémon Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver. When spoken with for the first time, he will perform a quiz on the player to evaluate their caring for their Pokémon. After the quiz, the Master will reward the player with a Dratini, which will know the move ExtremeSpeed if all questions are answered correctly. In Pokémon Crystal, this is the only way Dratini can learn this high-priority move. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, this ExtremeSpeed Dratini can, if male, pass on the move to offspring Dratini as an Egg move. It is obtained at level 15 in all games.

Two of the Master's descendants are Lance and Clair. Both of these Trainers are capable battlers who also use the Dragon type. Sometimes, they will come to the cave and visit their relative.

Reason: Confirm its Japanese Adventures name

The Dragon Clan Elder, as he is known in the English editions of Pokémon Adventures, makes a visit with Clair in order to train her to be stronger. He was revealed to have invited Drayden over to Blackthorn City in order to train Iris for the same reason.
