Trivia

Origin

Shiftry are probably based on Tengu, who are known for their long noses, cruel tricks, and ability to read minds.

Name origin

Shiftry's name is probably a combination of the words shifty (meaning deceitful), and tree. Its Japanese name is probably a combination of dark and 天狗 tengu, tricky Japanese goblins. Shiftry's German and French names also have tengu incorporated in them.
