The Haircut Brothers in the anime, as seen in A Goldenrod Opportunity

The haircut brothers (Japanese: さんぱつきょうだい Haircut brothers) are groomers in Pokémon Gold and Silver and their remakes, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, occasionally appearing in the Goldenrod Tunnel in Goldenrod City, Johto.

As the name suggests, the brothers give a single Pokémon a haircut that increases the friendship of the Pokémon, once per day. Using the services of the brothers is useful for evolving Pokémon that require a certain amount of friendship to evolve, such as Togepi or Eevee. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, the service not only raises a Pokémon's friendship, but also raises its Beauty stat, which is necessary to evolve Feebas into Milotic, due to the absence of Pokémon Super Contests in the games.

The younger of the Haircut brothers is cheaper at $300, but his service is often less satisfactory. However, the younger brother has a chance of occasionally increasing a Pokémon's friendship to a greater degree than the older brother is capable. The older brother is more reliable but more expensive at $500.

In the games

Having a haircut brother groom a Pokémon increases its friendship. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, grooming also increases a Pokémon's Beauty condition, but also increases its sheen.

Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal

  • If the younger brother is talked to
"Welcome to the Pokémon Salon! I'm the younger and less expensive of the two Haircut Brothers. I'll spiff up your Pokémon for just $300. So? How about it?"
Yes: "OK, which Pokémon should I do?"
  • After selecting a Pokémon
"OK! I'll make it look cool! There we go! All done! I can do only one haircut a day. Sorry, but I'm all done for today." (conversation ends)
No: "No? How disappointing!" (conversation ends)
  • If the older brother is talked to
"Welcome, I run the Pokémon Salon! I'm the older and better of the two Haircut Brothers. I can make your Pokémon beautiful for just $500. Would you like me to do that?"
Yes: "Which Pokémon should I work on?"
  • After selecting a Pokémon
"OK! Watch it become beautiful! There! All done! (conversation ends)
No: "No? How disappointing!" (conversation ends)

Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver

  • If talked to
"Welcome to the Pokémon Salon! I'm the younger and less expensive of the two Haircut Brothers. I'll spruce up your Pokémon for just $300. Grooming gives a better look. Your Pokémon will become friendlier and more beautiful. So? How about it?"
Yes: "OK, which Pokémon should I spruce up?"
  • After selecting a Pokémon
"Okay! I hope I do a good job! There we go! All done!" (conversation ends)
No: "No? How disappointing!" (conversation ends)

Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal
