I’m sumwun. My first experience with Pokemon was from the TCG. A few years later, I got Pokemon Platinum Version. I decided that the games were better than the TCG, so I ended up giving all of my cards to my friends. I made an account on the Pokemon Database and I regularly use the Q&A and help new competitors in the Rate My Team. I don’t have time to breed for perfect IVs, so I battle on a simulator, specifically Pokemon Showdown!. I also like their banlists better than those of VGC (I don’t care if Rayquaza isn’t “mythical”; it’s game breaking). I mostly play Monotype with a flying team. I want to see every fully evolved Pokemon in a tier someday, so I play PU where I can keep track of Pokemon that still aren’t viable for anything. My only other game at the time of writing is Pokemon Emerald Version. I’ve only played core series games so far, but I plan on starting my PMD: Blue Rescue Team sometime. As for Bulbapedia, it’s the best source of Pokemon information I’ve found so far (I don’t care if a BST of 600 is better than a BST of 318; we’re still better than Serebii). I tend to pay attention to detail, so most of my activity here consists of fixing unnoticeably tiny errors and adding random stuff to trivia sections.

Arguments that Pikachu should not be the mascot
My main argument is that Pokémon started as the core series games. Pikachu doesn’t represent them very well, except for Pokémon Yellow Version. Pikachu only became important when the Pokémon anime started airing. The first episode was aired on April Fools day, so Pikachu’s status as mascot was probably just some kind of prank.
- The mascot of Mario is Mario. The mascot of The Legend of Zelda is Link. The mascot of Kirby is Kirby. The mascot of Donkey Kong is Donkey Kong. In case you don’t see a pattern, the mascots for all these games are one of their playable characters. However, Red has no superpowers, so it would make more sense for the mascot to be a Pokémon. The closest that a Pokémon could ever get to being a playable character would probably be the starter Pokémon, since they’re both titular and obtained at the beginning of each game. Thus, I think it would make sense if all three Kanto starters could be mascots. Of course, they’d have to be roughly balanced in terms of both usefulness and popularity.
- If some Pokémon were to permanently be a mascot, it should represent some concept that doesn’t change. Of course, the thing that never changes is the past. Rhydon would be a good choice because it was the first Pokémon, thus a good representation of the past.
- Other concepts that at least should never become less significant are battling and evolution. No matter what you’re doing with Pokémon, whether you’re playing a core series game, a spinoff game, the Trading Card Game, watching the TV show, or reading one of the manga series, both battling and evolution are very important and intriguing concepts. A good mascot to represent the former would be Magikarp. It’s one of the weakest Pokémon, but becomes better at battling through battling. A good mascot to represent the latter would be Eevee, which is literally the evolution Pokémon.
Feel free to tell me that I’m wrong, but please tell me why. That way, I can find and fix flaws in my logic and win more arguments.
Changes that I think would make competitive battling more balanced
- All Pokémon that have a BST less than 420 and can’t evolve further, have no mega evolution(s), and aren’t Smeargle should get either an added evolution, a Mega Evolution, or a base stat boost that raises their BST to 420. I think 420 is the minimum for fully evolved Pokémon because the strongest non-legendary Pokémon, which have BSTs of 600, evolve from Pokémon with BSTs of a maximum of 420. Thus, 420 should be the maximum for not-fully-evolved Pokémon, and the minimum for the Pokémon that are fully evolved.
- All fully evolved Pokémon, except for Thundurus, Landorus, and Pokémon in which neither base attack stat is 1/12 or more of its BST, will be able to learn a “viable” attack for all of its types in the damage category that in which it has the strongest attack stat. For example, black Kyurem should be able to learn a “viable” physical ice attack and a “viable” physical dragon attack, since those are its two types and its physical attack is stronger than its special attack. Here’s a table that lists the attacks I think are “viable”. If you want to know how I decided that these moves are "viable", ask me on my talk page. Yes. Dragonite with Drill Peck will be a thing.
