Farfetch'd (Japanese: カモネギ Kamonegi) is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Farfetch'd resemble brown, cartoon-like Mallard ducks, but Farfetch'd is always brown regardless of gender. It has a large head in proportion to its body, it has a yellow beak, and it bears a black plumage on its forehead that resembles eyebrows. Its body and head are primarily brown in coloration and it has a white underbelly. It has wings as big as its body which appear to be prehensile enough to work like hands, and it always holds a leek in one of these wings. It also has yellow legs with webbed feet.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Its wings are a bit more versatile than most birds' as their feathers can be used as "fingers," allowing it to carry a leek, or spring onion. The leeks they carry can be used as a weapon, allowing them to use moves like Night Slash, Poison Jab, Fury Cutter, and Leaf Blade.
Behavior
Farfetch'd are always seen carrying a leek stalk, or spring onion. They carry it in their wings, sometimes choosing to hold it in their beaks instead and holding it in their feet when flying. Farfetch'd cannot live without their stick for unknown reasons, and will defend their stick with their life. The stick is also known to be used as nesting material and as a weapon. In case of an emergency situation where the Farfetch'd is starving, it will eat its own stick and hurry off to find a new one.
They are known to be picky in the kinds of sticks they accept. Farfetch'd have been known to fight each other over one 'good' stalk.
Habitat
Farfetch'd are found in grasslands, but it always has to be near water. Farfetch'd are also very good swimmers and are often found swimming in ponds. Farfetch'd are quite rare and are normally caught in Johto, although have been sighted in Kanto, Sinnoh and Unova.

Trivia
- In numerical order, Farfetch'd is the first Pokémon in the National Pokédex that does not have an evolution family, and has always been. It is also one of few remaining Generation I Pokémon, excluding legendaries, that does not evolve into or from anything, along with Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Tauros, Lapras, Ditto, and Aerodactyl.
- Farfetch'd can learn Fury Cutter by level up in Generation III, but it is incompatible with the Generation III Move Tutor that teaches the same move. It can, however, learn it through a Move Tutor in Platinum.
- Farfetch'd is one of the few Pokémon to continuously carry something they pick up or find. Others include Cubone, Marowak, Spoink, Burmy, Timburr, Gurdurr, Conkeldurr and Dwebble.
- Farfetch'd is the only non-glitch Pokémon with an apostrophe in its name.
- Farfetch'd is so far the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 352.
- According to the anime, Farfetch'd are rare because of over-hunting them for food. This means Farfetch'd is one of the few Pokémon confirmed to be used for food.
Origin
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:
Farfetch'd's origin might have come from a certain Japanese saying: 鴨が葱を背負って来る, literally translating to 'a duck comes bearing green onions'. As a saying, it means 'something surprising but convenient'. The phrase can be shortened simply to 鴨葱.
Name origin
Farfetch'd is derived from far-fetched, meaning unbelievable. It could also refer to the game of fetch, which animals play using objects.
Kamonegi is a combination of 鴨 kamo (wild duck) and 葱 negi (spring onion). Additionally, 鴨葱 kamonegi is an abbreviation of the proverb 鴨が葱をしょって来る ("a duck comes bearing green onions"), which means 'something surprising but convenient'.
