Trivia
- Swellow has the highest Speed stat of all Normal-type Pokémon.
Origin
Swellow's body resembles a barn swallow, although its head seems to more closely resemble a secretary bird. Swellow's shiny colors of green, red and white, combined with its two long tail feathers, also resemble a Resplendent Quetzal, a breed of birds from Mexico known for their beautiful colors--mostly green with red and white trims--and two long tail feathers.
Name origin
Swellow's name is a combination of swell and swallow.
Ohsubame is a corruption of 大燕 ōtsubame, large swallow. Ohsubame may also mean big Subame.
In other languages
- German: Schwalboss - From Schwalbe (swallow) and boss.
- French: Heledelle - Possibly from ailé (winged), and hirondelle (swallow).
- Korean: 스왈로 Swallow
