The setting for the competition

The (Japanese: アローラポケモンリーグ Alola Pokémon League), referred to by fans as the (Japanese: アローラリーグ・マナーロ大会 Alola League Manalo Conference), is the Alola League general championship competition founded by Professor Kukui. It was officially unveiled in SM115 in a press conference held on Aether Paradise. It is to be held at the recently completed Manalo Stadium, and is sponsored in part by the four Island Kahunas of Alola and Lusamine, the president of the Aether Foundation. Any Pokémon Trainer is welcome to enter the competition. The winner of the conference will be appointed as Alola's first Champion, and will face Masked Royal in an exhibition battle to cap off the proceedings.

The league is intended to be a replacement for an old, abandoned part of the island challenge ritual in which participants battled at the peak of Mount Lanakila.

The tournament began in SM128.
