Two-part gimmick
Basil belongs to the kind of gimmicks that consist of two parts that need to be connected to remove them from the puzzle. The other part is the basket, a fixed, horizontal section in the puzzle. There can be one or more baskets in a puzzle, and these can vary in size depending on the order. If multiple baskets are present in the puzzle, Basil gimmicks can be dropped to either of them. The baskets are shared with the Tomato gimmicks, so if both gimmicks are present in a puzzle, they can be dropped to the same baskets indiscriminately.

Clearability
Basil can't be cleared by Pokémon combos, Café skills or megaphones. Instead, they need to be dropped into a basket by moving the Pokémon icons in the puzzle in a way that drives them to their destination. The basket does not disappear even after all the Basil gimmicks have been cleared.
Movability
Basil gimmicks can be moved around the puzzle if they are pushed by other icons. Pokémon that have Basil as their Specialty gimmick can move them around more easily than other Pokémon.

Trappability
Basil can be contained by other gimmicks: Olive oil, Bubbles, Ice cubes, Coffee ice cubes, Mayo, Gummies and Jelly. They need to be freed from these gimmicks before they can be deposited in the basket.
