Victini (Japanese: ビクティニ Victini) is a dual-type Psychic/Fire Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology

Victini is a small, rabbit-like Pokémon with large, pointed ears which form the letter V. It has large, blue eyes and a round, cream-colored head, which is comparatively large compared to its small, cream body, while the tops of its ears, crest, and extremities are all orange. Its bulbous arms and legs are rounded to make a sort of "cuff" before ending with small, three-fingered hands and two-toed feet. It has two pointed teeth that can be seen on its upper jaw. It also has two cream winglike tails, which allows it to fly. Though timid, it is a caring Pokémon; it will fight if its friends are in danger.

Victini is said to bring victory to the Trainer that befriends it. It produces an infinite amount of energy within itself and can share it with others by touch. It can also become invisible. As shown in White—Victini and Zekrom and Black—Victini and Reshiram, it can send visions to people. It has been shown to enjoy eating macarons, although it sometimes chokes on them. In the same movie, it has also been seen near an Oran Berry bush.

Victini is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Searing Shot. Victini is also the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move V-create by leveling up. Additionally, Victini is the only known Pokémon that can have Victory Star as an Ability.

Victini debuted in White—Victini and Zekrom and Black—Victini and Reshiram. It lived in Eindoak Town, where it was a friend of the King of the People of the Vale one thousand years prior to the movies. In the present day, it was targeted by Damon in his plan to fly the Sword of the Vale back to the Kingdom of the Vale and resurrect his peoples' glory.

Other

In Pikachu, What's This Key?, Pikachu and his friends visited a Victini courtesy of Klefki's keys. It rescued Pikachu and brought him back to safety as he was falling into a chasm.

In At Liberty on Liberty Garden, Victini was seen on Liberty Garden, where Team Plasma attempted to catch it, but were thwarted by Black. Two years later in The Final Battle: Crushed Ambition, Victini returned the favor by helping Blake defeat Colress.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U

Victini appears as a Poké Ball Pokémon, after playing 100-Man Smash at least once. It uses Victory Star, which causes fighters (and teammates, if any) who send it out to gain immunity to knockback and have their attack power boosted.

NA: This Psychic/Fire-type Pokémon shares the limitless energy it creates with others. In Smash Bros., Victini uses Victory Star to power up the fighter that brought it into battle. The fighter won't flinch from damage and will launch foes easier, as well as glow with power. They aren't invincible, though...

PAL: Victini can create an endless supply of energy and share it with others. Its Victory Star move makes the other fighter who summoned it glow with power from head to toe. As long as they're glowing, their launch ability will shoot up and they'll never flinch. That said, they're not invincible - Victini isn't a miracle-worker.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Victini returns as a Pokémon summoned from the Poké Ball, where it gives the summoner their Final Smash with Victory Star. It also appears as a Spirit.

Victini in Pokémon Battle Chess

• Victini was first revealed in a preview for the fourteenth Pokémon movie at the end of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.
• Victini's Unova Pokédex number is 000, making it the only Pokémon to legitimately have the number 000 in any Pokédex listing.
  • Victini is the only Pokémon to be listed before the starter Pokémon of its home region.
  • Consequently, Victini is the only Mythical Pokémon of a later generation to appear next to a Mythical Pokémon of an earlier generation in the National Pokédex.
• In Black 2 and White 2, if Victini is taken to Liberty Garden, it will come out of its Poké Ball and dance around happily.
• Victini is the only Mythical Pokémon from Generation V to not have a form change.
• Victini appears in Pokémon Battle Chess BW Version. To use it, one must have their Egg damaged three times, then Victini hatches and behaves like a king piece in chess. When the player loses their Victini, they lose. Along with Emboar, it is the only Pokémon that has its power raised when damaged.
• Victini was added at the request of Junichi Masuda.^[1][2] Masuda himself mentioned in multiple interviews that Victini is his favorite Generation V Pokémon.^[2][3][4]
  • In a 2011 interview with Eurogamer, Junichi Masuda mentioned Mana Ibe as Victini's designer, and that it was meant to appeal more to girls than to boys.^[4]

Origin

Victini's appearance seems to be based on うさぎリンゴ usagi-ringo, a method of cutting apple slices to make them look similar to rabbits. Conceptually, it might draw inspiration from Nike, the Greek, winged goddess of victory; or Victoria, the Roman equivalent of Nike. Its tail wings may be a reference to Nike's wings. Its Fire typing may draw from the concept of the eternal flame, given the Pokédex describes it as having infinite energy and the eternal flame has been used to represent competition and victory, with, for example, the Olympics. More specifically, given Victini’s location on Liberty Garden (inspired by Liberty Island), it could be a personification of the torch held by the Statue of Liberty. The torch itself has a large number of symbolic associations and meanings.

Its theme of "V" could be linked to it being somewhat of the fifth Generation's mascot, "V" being the Roman numeral for 5. "V" could also be a reference to the V sign.

Victini is derived from victory,^[2] and also possibly destiny, teeny, or tiny.
