Major appearances
Lucario was one of the main Pokémon in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. It belonged to Sir Aaron and was sealed away in his staff for a thousand years. It was released by Ash during a festival, and helped guide him to the Tree of Beginning after Pikachu is teleported there by Mew.
It was first seen in Lost Leader Strategy! battling with Maylene in their training. Lucario used Aura Sphere to stop the battle of Electabuzz, Piplup and Pikachu. It is also seen battling Paul's Pokémon in a flashback.
Lucario was seen again in Crossing the Battle Line! where it battled in Dawn's Gym battle against Maylene. It defeated Dawn's Ambipom and Piplup.
It appeared once more in A Triple Fighting Chance! where it battled in Ash's Gym battle against Maylene. It defeated Ash's Staravia and Chimchar, but was knocked out along with Ash's Buizel, resulting in a tie.
Lucario was last seen in Enter Galactic! when it helped Ash and the others defeat Saturn and Team Galactic.
This Lucario debuted in Steeling Peace of Mind! at Iron Island. When Ash and his friends traveled there after being contacted by Barry, they found the local Steel-type Pokémon fighting brutally against each other and the other Pokémon on the island. When a crazed Aggron attacked Ash, Riley stepped in and had Lucario attack it with Close Combat. Despite being a Steel-type as well, Lucario wasn't affected like the others of its type due to its strong aura.
Minor appearances
Lucario also makes a brief appearance at the intro of The Rise of Darkrai, where one is shown dodging Rayquaza's Hyper Beam.
A Lucario and Froslass were seen in a Double contest on TV in Unlocking the Red Chain of Events!.

Trivia
- Lucario's English name was revealed on February 9, 2006 with the announcement of the title of Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.
- Before Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were released, many fans assumed Lucario would be a legendary Pokémon, based on its starring role in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. This has since been proven untrue, as it is readily available in the Generation IV games, is under ownership by NPCs, and even evolves from a Pokémon, Riolu.
- In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Lucario is the only one out of three Gem Guardians that is not a legendary Pokémon.
- In Pokémon Battle Revolution, a Lucario costume is seen, worn by Dusty.
- Two of Lucario's abilities relate to flinching. Steadfast makes Lucario faster when flinching, whilst Inner Focus protects it from it.
- Lucario can learn Ice Punch, ThunderPunch, and even Blaze Kick, but cannot learn Fire Punch.
- Lucario and Poliwrath are the only Fighting-type Pokémon able to learn Psychic, not counting Meditite, Medicham, Gallade and Meloetta as they are part Psychic-type.
- Lucario is the only Pokémon that learns Dragon Pulse through leveling up who is not a Dragon-type or related to one through evolution.
Origin
Lucario appears to be based on the Egyptian god of funerals, Anubis, who has the head of a jackal. Anubis's role in Egyptian mythology was to judge the hearts of deceased souls based on their actions during life. This resembles Lucario's ability to see a life form's aura. It also seems to be based on an Egyptian boxer. Boxing is a sport that is believed to have origins in Egypt. The markings on Lucario's face resemble a mask.
Name origin
Its name probably comes from Lupaster, a subspecies of the Canis Aureus, the Egyptian Jackal. Lucario's name possibly derives also from part of a Japanese spelling of oracle or orichalcum in reverse, reflecting its mythical design, its ability to see into the supernatural, and its Steel-type. It may also refer to Cairo, Egypt. The word pharaoh may also be involved. Also, it may be derived from the Greek word lykos meaning "wolf".
