Ranked Battles Series 12 was a set of organized play rules in Pokémon Sword and Shield. It was used from February 1, 2022 until August 31, 2022.

It is a restricted ruleset allowing for two restricted special to be registered to a team. It is also the final Ranked Battle Series from Pokémon Sword and Shield to be used in competitive play before the VGC circuit transitioned to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The ruleset is essentially identical to what would later become Series 14.

Ruleset

The regulation set adopts the following ruleset:

  • Pokémon may hold held items, however duplicate held items are not allowed.
  • Pokémon with the same National Pokédex number may not be registered to the same team.
  • Pokémon are automatically set to level 50 during battle.
  • Dynamax and Gigantamax are allowed.
  • All eligible Gigantamax Pokémon may be used.
  • Up to two restricted special Pokémon may be registered to a team.
  • Eligible Pokémon are limited to Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Sword and Shield, or Pokémon with the battle-ready symbol.
  • Timers are set as follows:
    • Total time limit per game: 20 minutes
    • Player timer per game: 7 minutes
    • Turn time: 45 seconds
    • Preview time: 90 seconds

Pokémon on the list below are eligible if they are available in Pokémon Sword and Shield, or transferred through Pokémon HOME.
