Ranked Battles Series 2 was a set of organized play rules in Pokémon Sword and Shield. It was used from January 1, 2020 until February 29, 2020.
The ruleset is similar to the one used in Series 1, however it allowed select Pokémon to Gigantamax for the first time. Additionally, this was the first Pokémon Sword and Shield ruleset to be used in competitive play in the TPCi / Play! Pokémon circuit (Series 1 however was used for some Asian tournaments prior to this).
Ruleset
The regulation set adopts the following ruleset:
- Pokémon may hold held items, however duplicate held items are not allowed.
- Pokémon with the same National Pokédex number may not be registered to the same team.
- Pokémon are automatically set to level 50 during battle.
- Dynamax is allowed. Additionally, eligible Pokémon may Gigantamax.
- Eligible Pokémon are limited to Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
- Timers are set as follows:
- Total time limit per game: 15 minutes
- Player timer per game: 7 minutes
- Turn time: 45 seconds
- Preview time: 90 seconds
