Ranked Battles Series 1 was a set of organized play rules in Pokémon Sword and Shield. It was used from November 15, 2019 until December 31, 2019.
The ruleset is similar to what would become Series 2, however Gigantamaxing was banned. This ruleset is notable for not being used in TPCi / Play! Pokémon competitive play, as games were held entirely on Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for the entirety of 2019. Select Asian tournaments were however held under this ruleset.
Ruleset
The regulation set adopts the following ruleset:
- Pokémon may hold held items, however duplicate held items are not allowed.
- Pokémon with the same National Pokédex number may not be registered to the same team.
- Pokémon are automatically set to level 50 during battle.
- Dynamax is allowed. Gigantamax is not allowed.
- Eligible Pokémon are limited to Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
- Timers are set as follows:
- Total time limit per game: 15 minutes
- Player timer per game: 7 minutes
- Turn time: 45 seconds
- Preview time: 90 seconds
