- In its Generation III sprites, Dusclops is shown to have only four fingers as opposed to the five shown in its official artwork and more recent sprites.

- It is one of only two Pokémon introduced in Generation III to evolve by trading while holding an item. The other is Clamperl.
- Of all Pokémon capable of evolving, Dusclops has the highest base Special Defense.
Origin
Dusclops is based on chōchin obake, which are one-eyed haunted paper lanterns. It also seems to have similarities to mummies.
Name origin
Dusclops may be a combination of dusk and cyclops.
Samayouru may be a combination of 彷徨う samayou (to wander about) and 夜 yoru (night).
