Snap (Japanese: トオル Tōru, lit. 'snap'), also known as Todd in the Kids WB! version and Snap in the Cartoon Network and DVD/VHS, is a professional Pokémon photographer.
He is one of the few fairly major characters in the Pokémon franchise who has no Pokémon of his own.
In the anime
Snap first appeared in Pokémon Paparazzi. He had recently become famous after he took a picture of a supposedly extinct Aerodactyl. He was hailed for being able to "capture any Pokémon on film" After seeing the article in a magazine, Meowth misunderstood the wording, not seeing the "on film" part. Team Rocket disguised themselves and hired Snap to capture Pikachu.
Snap set out to capture the perfect picture of Pikachu, which irritated Ash - the two boys eventually settled their differences, however. Snap traveled with the group for some time, but left at the end of The Breeding Center Secret before Ash, Misty, and Brock boarded the ship for Cinnabar Island.
Later, Snap showed up again in Moving Pictures up in the mountains of Johto, trying to capture a picture of the Legendary Bird, Articuno. After successfully photographing the Legendary Pokémon in Freeze Frame, Snap went his own way once again.
His Japanese voice actor is 山口勝平 Kappei Yamaguchi and his English voice actor is Jimmy Zoppi.
In the games
Snap is the protagonist of Pokémon Snap, a photography game. Professor Oak hired him to go to Pokémon Island with the ZERO-ONE to take pictures of wild Pokémon behaving naturally for a Pokémon Report. He traveled all over the island getting pictures of all the species, and received Pokémon food, Pester Balls, a Poké Flute, and the Dash Engine upgrade to help him capture the best images possible. While there, he also took pictures of the Pokémon Signs, and Professor Oak used them to discern the location of the rarest Pokémon, Mew.
In the Pokémon Special manga
In Pokémon Special, Snap is a reporter and photographer on assignment at the Battle Frontier. There, he encountered the eccentric young Emerald - the strange young man ended up saving Todd from a wild Sudowoodo.
