A Bird Keeper (Japanese: とりつかい Bird Tamer) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They are generally depicted as young men carrying bird cages, except in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, in which they are female. Their design in HeartGold and SoulSilver appears to have been intended as a male version of the Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum design. HeartGold and SoulSilver use the Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum sprites in the Battle Frontier, perhaps to avoid changing all the female names used.

They specialize in Flying-type Pokémon that are based on birds, like Pidgeot.

A bird keeper first appears in Who Gives a Hoothoot? and later in Really Raikou & Entirely Entei I. He is shown to break the law, conning children and poaching, and is arrested by Falkner.
