Tina (Japanese: リッカ Ricca) is a character introduced in Pokémon Masters EX. She forms a sync pair with Flareon. This pair can be obtained through a Poké Fair sync pair scout beginning on September 4, 2023. This pair can be raised to since it first released.

In the games
In the games
Tina is Paulo's friend and the secondary rival of the player.
Personality
Tina is an energetic, cheerful, optimistic person who enjoys spending time with her Pokémon and making memories with them. She believes that getting stronger is pointless if the Trainer forgets about their bond with their Pokémon, and she'd rather be with a Pokémon that she's shared memories with than one that's rare or strong. She wants to treasure each encounter she has with Pokémon, so she gets excited about what kinds of cities and Pokémon she'll see while she's traveling. She is really good at running and jumping, but she has trouble studying and often forgets things. She has been friends with Paulo ever since they were little, and he sometimes tutors her in math.

History
* During conversation (voice clips)
As little children, Tina and Paulo took care of a wild Dratini together, each vowing to go on a journey with Dratini and challenge the Champion. One day, Dratini was caught by a Collector who wished to profit from the products that could be made of Dratini's shed skin. Tina was distraught at having to say goodbye to Dratini like that, while Paulo became fixated on becoming stronger so that he'd never have to experience things like that again.

;Main Story Villain Arc - Paulo Interlude
Eventually, both Tina and Paulo left their hometown to start their journeys. On her travels, Tina visited a Pokémon graveyard and listened to the stories of the Trainers who came to visit graves. Those stories made her realize that no matter what, the time she has with her Pokémon is limited, so she began to think that she should make the most of that time.

: "No fair, Paulo! Why didn't you bring me with you?"
: "Oh well. So how'd you do in the PML, then?"
: "Really?! That's amazing, Paulo!"
: "I mean, you just said the strongest Trainers from around the world were all gathered here, right?"
: "And you made it all the way to the main tournament! That's not something any old Trainer can do!"
: "I'm so jealous! I wish I could've joined the PML, too!"
: "Really? Then let's team up and win this thing!"
: "Hm? Is that a friend of yours?"
: "Whoa! No kidding?!"
: "That's impressive! And you look about our age, too!"
: "Nice to meet you, <player>!"
: "What do you mean?"
: "Oh, thanks! If you don't mind, that'd be super helpful!"
: "Why so serious, Paulo?"
: "You've always been like this, even when we were traveling around, aiming to be the strongest Trainers ever!"
: "Remember how you'd always heal up my Pokémon before we battled so it'd be a fair match?"
: "You do realize that it would've been easier for you if you didn't do that, right?"

: "It's OK to have fun and just enjoy your time together with your Pokémon, y'know."
: "You don't have to make everything so complicated! Don't sweat the small stuff!"
: "Yeah! Why don't we do more training for this PML thing, then?"
: "Uh...Paulo? You there?"
: "Oh, I've got an idea! Why don't we get something to eat?"
: "You two must be hungry, too! Why don't you show me all the good eats here on Pasio?"
: "We'll be fine! It's not like we're little kids anymore!"
: "C'mon, let's go!"

*Justice without Power
Villain Arc
: "Time to attack! Everyone ready?"
Tina first arrives on Pasio soon after the end of the first Pokémon Masters League tournament. She feels dismayed upon learning that she missed the tournament, but congratulates Paulo on making it to the main tournament, despite him losing early on. She immediately starts training in preparation for the next tournament, but during one training match, she notices Paulo using an uncharacteristically reckless tactic to win. Later, Tina and Paulo are confronted by a pair of Team Rocket Grunts, but before they can beat them, Giovanni and several more Grunts appear, easily overwhelming Tina and Paulo with their sheer numbers. However, Giovanni lets them off the hook, prioritizing his big schemes over minor Pokémon theft.
: "Ready or not, here we come!"
: "What?!"
: "Aw, man! I'm so bummed we lost!"
: "You really surprised me, Paulo. That battle earlier wasn't your usual style."
: "'Cause in the past, you never liked letting your Pokémon get hurt in battle."
: "I know you're just trying out different tactics, but still..."
: "You should give him a treat later on, 'kay?"
: "I know the reason why you're experimenting is because of all the new things you've seen here on Pasio."
: "I think that's a good thing."
: "What're you talking about? Paulo would never team up with people like you!"
: "Don't worry–Flareon and I can take care of anything Rockruff can't!"
: "Our teamwork is unstoppable! Just watch!"
: "Who's this dude?"
: "Wha–?!"
: "Y-yeah!"
: "Paulo!"
: "Hey!"
: "You're just overpowering us with numbers! That's so unfair!"
: "P...Paulo?"
: "Did he just...let us off the hook?"
: "Sheesh. I gotta train more so we don't lose to guys like that from now on."
: "Huh?"
: "Paulo..."
:* In flashback, as Young Tina
: "Waaaah! Waaaah!"
: "B-but..."

*Good or Evil Bonds
This defeat causes Paulo to start relying on Pokémon he loans from Lear instead of his Rockruff to become stronger, which Tina disapproves of. The two are approached by Colress, who explains how both good and bad people can use sync stones, because even evil connections still count as connections. Looker also requests that the two bodyguard Colress from Team Rocket, which they accept. Later, meeting up with the player and Colress, Tina asks their help in stopping Paulo's obsessive pursuit of strength. While they accept, Colress emphasizes that both making memories and becoming stronger are equally valid viewpoints, and that one shouldn't be completely rejected in favor of the other.
:* Off-screen, as "???"
: "Paulo!"
:* After appearing, as Tina
: "I haven't seen you use those Pokémon before. Are they new friends of yours?"
: "Oh... So where's Rockruff?"
: "Wait...seriously?"
: "Paulo, are you still hung up on what happened? That was ages ago!"
: "I thought Rockruff was important to you! He's your partner!"
: "Don't tell me you're starting to think like all those bad guys!"
: "Looker!"
: "Er... Mr. Colress, could you maybe explain what you meant just now?"
: "You said "even one without a conscience.""
: "Why are bad people also able to use sync stones?"
: "What do you mean, no distinction?"
: "How could you say that?!"
: "His bodyguard?"
: "Wha–?! O-OK, let's go over there, where there's more space..."

*Too Late for Guidance
Tina is later kidnapped by the Shadow Triad on Ghetsis's orders in order to force Paulo to bring Hoopa to him in exchange for her safety. However, immediately upon Paulo's arrival, Ghetsis eats his words and says he'll keep using Tina as leverage. Paulo attempts to free her, but is overpowered by Ghetsis and the Shadow Triad. When Paulo's Rockruff is seemingly disintegrated by Kyurem, Paulo's anger peaks, allowing him to take control of Hoopa with his sync stone and transform it into its Hoopa form. After driving Team Plasma away, Paulo leaves to use Hoopa Unbound's power to start eradicating evil from the world, ignoring Tina's objections.
: "Awww! You're so cute, Hoopa!"
: "Huh?"
: "Ack!"
: "Bleh... Sand!"
: "Hey! Cut it out!"
: "Oh, really? That's kinda hard to believe."'
: "Paulo!"
: "Dummy..."

*A Reason to Be Strong
After Paulo's confrontation with Team Rocket has ended with Hoopa falling under Giovanni's control and Paulo understanding the error of his ways, Tina reveals that Rockruff is still alive, with Hoopa having transported it away before Kyurem's attack hit it. She had later found it and brought it to the Pokémon Center to recover. With Paulo's fighting spirit restored, he, Tina, and the player leave to confront Giovanni, with Tina carrying a device made by Colress that should be able to restore Hoopa to normal. Making their way through Team Rocket's forces, they eventually reach Giovanni at the Champion Stadium and battle him. Tina's Flareon ultimately succeeds in restoring Hoopa to normal, causing all the Legendary Pokémon summoned by Hoopa to disappear. With this, Giovanni calls off Team Rocket's attack and retreats for now, allowing Tina and her friends to resume training in earnest.
: "Oh, <player>..."
: "Have you seen Paulo?"
:: I haven't seen him today.: "I see..."
:: Did something happen?: "Well...yeah."
: "Ever since we lost to Team Rocket, Paulo's been acting weird."
: "Like he's cornered or something."
: "I think something that happened when we were little has been bothering him..."
: "Colress..."
: "Oh! I completely forgot I was supposed to be your bodyguard! Sorry about that!"
: "Oh, right. Well..."
: "It happened back when Paulo and I weren't even Trainers yet."
: "There was this wild Dratini we were secretly taking care of, and..."
:* In flashback, as Young Tina
: "Yaaay! We got to play with you so much today!"
: "I wanna be a Trainer already..."
: "I wanna go on a journey with Dratini and challenge the Champion!"
: "Nuh-uh! It's gonna be me!"
: "What're you doing, mister?!"
: "How could you..."
: "I... I..."

: "Huh?"
:* Back to present
: "Since then, we got older."
: "Paulo and I got our Pokémon and left the town where we grew up."
: "But I think that incident still hurts him to this day."
: "I do think that the strength to protect things is important."
: "And I don't want to say good-bye like that ever again."
: "But..."
: "I know that the time I can spend with my Pokémon is limited, so I want us to spend it together, making all sorts of memories."
: "Once, on my travels, I saw a Pokémon graveyard."
: "Some Trainers who came to visit graves told me their stories. That's when I started to think this way."
: "There's no point in getting strong if it means you forget about the connection you have with your Pokémon."
: "That's why I don't like how Paulo's been thinking lately."
: "He can't be as strong as he wants, and that's really weighing on his mind..."
: "<player>! Colress!"
: "I don't think Paulo's gonna listen to me anymore."
: "He didn't even try to listen to what Blue and Cheren were telling him, either."
: "So...I need your help–to save him!"
: "Thank you, both!"
: "OK!"
: "Hey! Who are you?"
: "Yeah, sure..."
: "Psyche. You think I'd just come quietly?!"

*Where Are We?!
Special event
: "Hey, that must be a new Trainer! I haven't seen him here before."
While walking along the beach on Pasio, the player (Scottie or Bettie) and Tina find Ash passed out due to hunger. They take Ash to Lear to get him some food, then agree to help Ash get accustomed to Pasio. After watching the player battle Ash and show him what a sync move is, Tina battles Ash. While battling, Tina fails to perform a sync move with her Flareon, while Ash successfully performs his first sync move with his Pikachu and wins the battle. Tina shrugs off this failure, saying that they just need more practice, although she mentions that this has never happened before. Ash's Pikachu tries to cheer up Flareon, only for Flareon to scare him away. Tina asks Flareon why he is acting so rude, only for him to lash out at Tina and run away. Tina is shocked, as she and Flareon never fought when he was an Eevee. However, he has become a bit feisty ever since he evolved. Ash tells Tina that her Flareon is just going through a rebellious stage; he went through a similar situation before, but everything turned out fine in the end. Ash assures Tina that she and Flareon will be fine because Flareon is important to her. The player, Ash, and Tina then head off to search for Flareon.
: "Is he OK?"
: "Ack! He fainted! Hey, are you OK?"
*Ash's Sync Move Practice
: "I'm Tina! Let's do our best together, Ash!"
: "You got a Pokémon Masters EX earlier, didn't you?"
: "Yep! I'm sure you'll be able to do it in no time!"
: "Especially if you're such good friends with your Pikachu!"
: "We gotta stay sharp if we wanna keep up, don't we, Flareon? C'mon, let's take 'em on!"
: "Flareon? What's wrong?"
: "Heheh! Not bad!"
: "Thanks! Now it's time for our sync move! Take this!"
: "Huh?"
: "Wow, that's amazing, Ash! You were able to use your sync move right away!"
*Flareon's Rebellion
: "Well...maybe we just need to practice more."
: "This hasn't really happened to us before, though..."
: "Let's do our best so we don't lose next time, Flareon."
: "Hey, cut it out! No fighting!"
: "I know you're frustrated that we lost, but you can't just be rude–"
: "Whoa!"
: "Ah! Where are you going, Flareon?!"
: "What's up with him?!"
: "No, not at all."
: "Well...I guess we never really fought when he was an Eevee..."
: "But ever since he evolved into Flareon, he's gotten a bit feisty."
: "I wonder why..."
: "A rebellious stage?"
: "... ... ..."
: "Yeah!"
: "Could it be..."
: "Right now, there are some bad people on this island."
: "My friends and the other folks on Pasio have been pitching in to keep watch, but lots of Trainers have had their Pokémon stolen!"
: "I hope they didn't take Flareon..."
: "Team Break!"
: "They're those villains who've been trying to mess with our tournaments and steal our Pokémon!"
: "Flareon?!"
*Use Thunderbolt!
: "What?! No way!"
: "Flareon..."
: "Do you hate me so much that you joined Team Break?"
: "OK... Flareon!"
: "I'm so sorry! I'm a terrible Trainer who couldn't understand your feelings!"
: "But you're my partner!"
: "I wanna be by your side! No matter what happens, that'll never change!"
: "Even if we can't use our sync move...and no matter who we lose to...it doesn't matter!"
: "Because..."
: "I hate being apart from you!"
: "I hate it!"
: "Ash?!"
: "Oh, really? Is that true, Flareon?"
: "Huh?"
: "Sure! We'd love to!"
: "Let's go, Flareon!"

;Special Event - Blazing Battle with Ash
After searching for Flareon for a while with no success, Tina starts to suspect that he was stolen by some of the bad people on the island. Suddenly, Team Break shows up saying that Tina will never get her Flareon back. After Tina briefs Ash on who Team Break is, he asks them what they meant, and they reveal that Tina's Flareon has joined them. The player and Ash battle Team Break to get Flareon back, but Ash has difficulty going all out against a friend's Pokémon and the player's Pikachu is knocked out by Team Break's other Pokémon. Tina is distraught at this turn of events, but Ash encourages her to not give up and tell Flareon how she feels. Tina apologizes to Flareon for being a bad Trainer and not understanding his feelings. She says she wants to be by Flareon's side no matter what, because Flareon is her partner and she hates being separated from him. Tina's Flareon is moved by her speech, and Team Break is annoyed that Flareon is still loyal to his Trainer. They send a Crobat to knock him out, but Ash takes the attack to protect Flareon. Tina is surprised by Ash's actions, and Ash tells Flareon that Tina will never replace him, prompting Flareon to return to her side. Once Flareon reunites with Tina, Ash and Pikachu knock out Team Break's Crobat with ease. Once Team Break runs away, Ash, the player, and Tina celebrate their victory.
*Sudden Announcement
: "What?!"

*Lear's Goal?
Later, Ash guesses that Flareon was just jealous and thought that Tina was going to be taken away from him because he lost to Pikachu. Ash then invites Tina to battle again to cheer her up from the day's events, and the two proceed to battle.
: "They didn't tell you anything, <player>?"
: "Well... Lear did say that it's for Trainers who are new to Pasio."
: "So maybe he wants them to give it their all in a format they're used to rather than force them into teams."
: "I'm new to Pasio, so I'm thinking of entering. What about you, Ash?"
: "Oh, I'm not gonna lose, either!"

*A Heated First Battle!
Special event
: "Let's go, Flareon!"
While walking through Centra City, the player (Scottie or Bettie), Ash, and Tina notice a crowd has gathered to watch an announcement that Lear is making. He announces a single battle tournament called the "Single Master Challenge Cup" for Trainers who just arrived on Pasio, with the winner being able to challenge the leader of the team that won the first-ever PML: the player. This shocks the whole group, especially the player, and Tina is surprised that the player didn't know anything about this beforehand. Ash wonders why the tournament is for single battles instead of Pasio's standard team battles; Tina guesses that it's because the tournament is for Trainers who are new to Pasio, and they'll be able to do better in a battle format they're used to. Tina and Ash both decide to enter the tournament and vow to win the whole thing.
: "Uh-oh, a Water Pokémon? Not a great matchup against my Flareon..."
: "But we won't give up till the end, just like Ash!"
: "Right, Flareon?"
: "Aww, man..."
: "Guess I lost."

Pokémon
Tina's first match in the tournament is a close battle, and it comes down to both Tina and her opponent having one Pokémon left. Tina sends out Flareon, while her opponent sends out Carracosta. Tina realizes she's at a type disadvantage, but following Ash's example, she says she won't give up until the end. Unfortunately, Tina's Flareon is defeated, eliminating her from the tournament.
{| style="float:left; width: 96px"

Tina joins the audience to watch the rest of the tournament, receiving compliments from Rosa and Gloria on her great battle when she first arrives. During Ash's match against the player, Tina is shocked when Ash defeats the player's Solgaleo. At the end of the tournament, Tina joins Lear and the player to congratulate Ash on winning. Afterwards, she joins the player and Ash for a team battle against Lear, Rachel, and Sawyer.

In the games

History

As little children, Tina and Paulo took care of a wild Dratini together, each vowing to go on a journey with Dratini and challenge the Champion. One day, Dratini was caught by a Collector who wished to profit from the products that could be made of Dratini's shed skin. Tina was distraught at having to say goodbye to Dratini like that, while Paulo became fixated on becoming stronger so that he'd never have to experience things like that again.

Villain Arc

When Paulo's Rockruff is seemingly disintegrated by Kyurem, Paulo's anger peaks, allowing him to take control of Hoopa with his sync stone and transform it into its Unbound form. After driving Team Plasma away, Paulo leaves to use Hoopa Unbound's power to start eradicating evil from the world, ignoring Tina's objections.

Special events

The Classic Thunderbolt

Later, Ash guesses that Flareon was just jealous and thought that Tina was going to be taken away from him because he lost to Pikachu. Ash then invites Tina to battle again to cheer her up from the day's events, and the two proceed to battle.

Blazing Battle with Ash

Trivia

  • The internal data of Pokémon Masters prior to version 1.4.0 had initially listed Tina as Camilla (Japanese: サザンカ Sazanka). The data had remained unused and was removed in subsequent versions, before it was added back in version 2.15.0 with the character officially introduced in the main story under her current name. This may have been due to her initial name being the same as Sanqua's in Japanese, German, Spanish, Italian, and Korean.
  • In The Classic Thunderbolt special event, Tina is revealed to have owned her Flareon ever since he was an Eevee.
  • In her sync pair story, Tina says she debated on what her Eevee should evolve into. She considered Vaporeon or Glaceon because they are nice and chilly, or Jolteon for its speed, but ultimately settled on Flareon because she felt its burning flames and passion were the best fit for her.
  • All versions of Tina use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers include Scottie, Bettie, and Paulo.
    • Tina also uses special voice-over lines upon winning a battle with Paulo in the same team.

Origin

Flareon's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
