Kiawe's grandfather is a recurring character who appeared in the Pokémon anime. He was an Island Kahuna of Akala Island and Olivia's immediate predecessor.
History
Kiawe's grandfather first appeared in a flashback in Young Kiawe Had a Farm!.
He was mentioned in A Shivering Shovel Search!, where Kiawe told Ash that his grandfather used to warn him about lone shovels on the beach, as they could belong to Sandygast.
He reappeared in A Crowning Moment of Truth! in a flashback, where he hosted a festival on Akala Island, where Trainers get their Pokémon to wear the Wela Crown (Japanese ヴェラの冠 Crown of Wela).
In The Young Flame Strikes Back!, Kiawe mentioned that his grandfather was once the protector of Kiawe's family farm.
In SM104, Kiawe mentioned that Hapu's grandfather Sofū was best friends with his own grandfather.
Kiawe's grandfather reappeared in SM107, during a flashback as Kiawe and Charizard were diving towards the ground, Kiawe remembered what his grandfather taught him. He later reappeared as an apparition created by Tapu Fini alongside Sofū before fading away.
