By Your Side ~Hikari's Theme~ (Japanese: 君のそばで 〜ヒカリのテーマ〜 Kimi no Soba de ~Hikari no Tēma~, exact Kimi no Soba de ~Hikari no Thema~) was the first ending song of the Diamond & Pearl series. It aired from DP001 to DP061.

Synopsis of original version

Dawn is shown in different poses, along with Ash's hat and Pikachu's ear. She strikes a pose, displaying her Pokétch, which transitions into Dawn catching a coin with her previous pose. Dawn is looking at the sky with Ash, Brock and their Pokémon. Piplup is on Dawn's shoulder, and they smile. Brock, Ash and Pikachu look at a fountain while Dawn watches Piplup eat. Ash, Pikachu, Brock and Dawn are looking at a Pokémon Contest poster. Piplup, Pikachu and Dawn appear on the screen in rapid order. She smiles at the camera, and a image of the group running with their Pokémon appears. Dawn winks at the camera, and a image of Dawn wearing her contest attire is seen with everyone else and their Pokémon in the background. She is serious, then a image of the group jumping appears. The group is running with a mountain backdrop, as the group jumps the background changes to a valley with a waterfall and rainbow. Dawn looks at the camera, then she poses with her friends. She winks at the camera, then Team Rocket is seen digging a hole. She is serious, then she appears jumping, with a Poké Ball in hand. Dawn, Ash and Brock are running again. Then, they, Team Rocket, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny are smiling at the camera.

Synopsis of PopUp and Winter versions

Ash, Brock, Dawn and all their Pokémon all play in the snow. Piplup, Pikachu and Dawn appear on the screen in rapid order. She smiles at the camera, and a image Dawn and her Pokémon appears. Dawn winks at the camera, and a image of Brock wearing a sombrero and maracas with his Pokémon. She is serious, then a image of Ash and his Pokémon appears. The group is running with a mountain backdrop, as the group jumps the background changes to a valley with a waterfall and rainbow. Dawn looks at the camera, then all of Ash, Dawn and Brock's Pokémon appears. She winks at the camera, then Team Rocket is seen crashing and falling down a hole. She is serious, then she appears jumping, with a Poké Ball in hand. Dawn, Ash and Brock are running again. Then, they, Team Rocket and all their Pokémon are smiling at the camera.

• Ash's Turtwig was added in DP006.
• Brock's Croagunk was added in DP008.
• Dawn's Buneary was added in DP009.
• Ash's Staravia was added in DP014.
• Brock's Sudowoodo was added in DP015.
• DP025 was the first episode to feature the PopUp. Version of this ending, which added Dawn's Pachirisu, among other Pokémon in the new images which were added to the animation. A reference to Takeshi's Paradise is made in one of the images.
• Brock's egg was added in DP034.
• Dawn's Buizel was added in DP035.
• Brock's Happiny was added in DP039
• DP051 was the first episode to feature the Winter Version of this ending. The reference of Takeshi's Paradise is still visible in this version, with Brock's Croagunk having taken both his sombrero and mustache.
• Ash's Chimchar was added in DP053.
• James's Cacnea was removed in DP055.
• Aipom and Buizel are switched to Dawn and Ash's screens, respectively, DP057.
• Chimchar now sits on Ash's shoulder at the end where Aipom used to be in DP057.
• The PopUp Version is included on the CD single for Together 2007, and the Winter Version is included on the CD High Touch! / Ashita wa Kitto.
• Many thought that since DP001-DP025 had the original version, and DP026-DP050 had the PopUp Version, the Winter Version would last from DP051-DP075. This was proven false, as the Winter Version was last used in DP061.
• Slow instrumental versions can still be heard in the English dub.
