Smile (Japanese: スマイル lit. Sumairu) is the fourth ending theme song of the Japanese Advanced Generation Pokémon anime series.

It debuted in AG052, and a second cut with different lyrics debuted in AG062. It was replaced by Full of Summer!! in AG083, but the second cut was used afterwards from AG092 to AG098.

Smile is notable in that it was the first ending sequence to be updated whenever one of the main characters caught or evolved one of their Pokémon. Updating opening and ending sequences with team changes is now standard practice in the anime.

Synopsis

Lyrics

Japanese Romaji English Translation
Koraekirezu ni ima They can't be held back now
Ryuu shita kimi no namida ga hikatte Your tears that shine
Soredemo kawarazu ni And still, you can't change
Kimama na kaze wa mune wo yusaburu yo The selfish wind that shakes in your chest

Ganbaru koto wa taisetsu dakedo Going for things is important, but
Shoujiki na kimi no yowasa wo Honesty is your weakness
Kakusu tamedakeniaru tsuyosa nara If you want to just hide
Nakute ii kara Because you might not be strong

Ima wa mienakutemo Now, even if you can't see it
Tashika ni kimi no mune no naka ni aru I'm positive in your heart
Nanika wo shinji nuku tsuyosa wa Is the strength to believe in something
Kimi no egao wo matteru So I'll wait for your smile

Hito wa mina daremo ga kyou wo samayou Today, all the people are wandering
chiisa na tabibito Little travelers
Toki ni wa mayoi toki ni wa hagure Sometimes led astray, sometimes lost
Ashita wo sagashiteru As they search for tomorrow

Kizutsuku kotokara nigedashite If you're running away from pain
Kyou ni tachi sukunda toshitemo Stand up today, even if you're cowering
Nanimo nakushite shimau mono nado There's nothing to lose, If you just do things like that
Kitto nai hazu sa I'm sure you won't lose anything

Ashita no hajimari ni Because we are standing
Bokura wa tatteru kara At the beginning of tomorrow

Chiisa kutemo daiji na ippo wa A step so small, yet important
Kimi no mirai wo egaki dasu yo Will draw your future
Nanika wo tsukan da Grab hold of something
Sono yogoretate wa kimi no kunshou Your own dirty hands are your medal

Ima wa mienakutemo Now, even if you can't see it
Tashika ni kimi no mune no naka ni aru I'm positive in your heart
Nanika wo shinji nuku tsuyosa wa Is the strength to believe in something
Kimi no egao wo matteru So I'll wait for your smile
