The Looker Episode[1] is a story taking place in Pokémon Sun and Moon after the player has completed the main plot and became Champion of the Alola Pokémon League. The episode revolves around the Ultra Beasts that have swarmed Alola after Lusamine had opened multiple Ultra Wormholes. The plot has the player join Looker and Anabel (who makes her first appearance since Pokémon Emerald) as part of the UB Task Force, a group of individuals in the International Police who focus on eliminating Ultra Beasts and preventing natural disasters caused by the extraterrestrial Pokémon. Nanu, one of the island kahuna from Ula'ula Island, appears to be a retired member of this group and also takes a notable role in the story.
The plot line was replaced by Episode RR in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. However, Looker and Anabel still appear in those titles, making cameo appearances, with the involved Ultra Beasts being obtainable in their home worlds though Ultra Warp Ride. A small side quest, similar to the Looker Episode, was also included in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. The player would catch either BlacephalonUS or StakatakaUM at Poni Grove under the assistance of the Ultra Recon Squad. Necrozma opening several Ultra Wormholes at Poni's Altar can be seen as a parallel to Lusamine doing the same, and is the direct result to the appearance of Stakataka/Blacephalon. Going beyond Poni Grove would also trigger a small event with Looker and Anabel, telling the player that they (the player) is in the middle of a mission and they should return to what they are doing if encountered before catching both specimen.
Plot
The day after the player says goodbye to Lillie as she leaves for Kanto, they are met with a good morning and chat with their mother, and their friend, Hau. The two leave the player's house and the player is met with a mysterious old man who asking for their name. The old man says he was sent by a group to give them an Enigmatic Card. The man runs off, telling the player that they should be careful where they read the invitation, and that nobody should know of him or the card. The card tells the player to visit the motel on Route 8 on Akala Island, directing them for their first mission.
The UB Task Force

The player makes their way to Route 8, and inside the motel's guest room, they are met with two strangers, two members of the International Police. The man, who was previously in disguise as the old man, goes by the name of Looker is accompanied by his boss, Anabel, who is the head of a secret division within the International Police known as the UB Task Force. Looker asks the player about their history of UB Symbiont, also known as the Ultra Beast called Nihilego, and if they have ever come into contact with one. After Looker and Anabel appear startled for hearing that they had beaten Nihilego, they reveal that Lusamine had released more Ultra Beasts into Alola during the temporary opening of Ultra Wormholes, and that Nihilego is only one of many. Among the many other Ultra Beasts, there is also more Nihilego found throughout Alola who could cause harm to the region and its ecosystem. The Ultra Beasts not only pose a threat to Alola, but to themselves as well, as they were put into the region against their own will and appear to be on high alert. The UB Task Force is tasked with three objectives: study the ecology of the Ultra Beasts, protect any people from harm of the Ultra Beasts, and to either protect the Ultra Beasts or destroy them. Looker and Anabel wish to avoid killing any Ultra Beasts themselves, knowing that they are living creatures themselves, but would be high risk knowing their dangerous tendencies and that catching them is easier said than done. They also lack the ability to battle the UBs, so they have come to ask Alola's champion, the player, if they could help with secluding the Ultra Beasts, and join the UB Task Force. The player accepts, and as a test of skill, is challenged by Anabel in battle.
In order to grab more information on Ultra Beasts, the player is tasked to go to the secret laboratories of Aether Paradise and speak with the Aether Foundation's vice-chief, Wicke. At Aether Paradise, Wicke is waiting for the player to arrive. She is very appreciative of what the player has done for Lillie and Lusamine and explains their reason to travel to Kanto. Apologizing for going off about Lillie's family, she gives the player two Big Malasadas and directs the player to Secret Lab B, where testing on Cosmog and UBs were done. The information she shares to the player is strictly confidential and only them and the International Police are to know about what is given. Wicke awards the player with 10 Beast Balls, a special kind of Poké Ball created by the Aether Foundation in secrecy in order to catch Ultra Beasts. As is the fault of the Aether Foundation, Wicke will be helping the player on granting more Beast Balls throughout the plot, as well as providing the information necessary on any Ultra Beasts. Wicke tells the player to visit Anabel at the Akala Island motel on Route 8.
Mission Start

Anabel welcomes the player back from their visit from Aether Paradise, only for Looker to appear, speaking of disaster in Spanish. Apologizing for his habit, Looker explains that a new sighting of Symbiont has been spotted on the very island they are on: Akala Island. Anabel leaves to protect the people on the island and the player secures the Ultra Beast while Lookers as stays for potential backup. Looker can explain any information on Symbiont to the player before they act on fighting the Ultra Beast. Nihilego is known as a terrifying beast that preys on both people and Pokémon, however there is only one sighting of the Pokémon found in two different locations: either at Wela Volcano Park or Diglett's Tunnel. The player leaves to go to either location and manages to catch the Nihilego that was reported and relays the success on capture to Looker. The information is sent back to the International Police HQ and to Wicke. Looker wishes for celebration for the player's arrival to their team and the success on catching Nihilego, suggesting they go out to dinner at one of Akala's restaurants and leaves to ask about the delivery. As Looker is gone, Anabel provides context that the Ultra Beast obtained would have been sent back to HQ, but it's better that the Pokémon remains in the player's care, wishing that Nihilego wouldn't be subjugated to awful experiments. Looker returns, yelling about another catastrophe, this time, in French. The disaster, another UB sighting, is found on Melemele Island and any plans at the restaurant have been cancelled.
The Relationship Between the Two

The group sets out to the motel on Melemele's Route 2. Looker goes out to gather information on the upcoming Ultra Beast, while Anabel stays behind, expecting a visitor that has knowledge of a second Ultra Beast. Kahuna Nanu enters the room unexpected, who Anabel has had previous encounters with before, and the one who had contacted the International Police about their next target. He's heard of rumors of an Ultra Beast known as AbsorptionS/BeautyM by the International Police. In Pokémon Sun, two of these specimen are found in Melemele Meadow, while in Pokémon Moon, four of them are found in Verdant Cavern. Anabel is shocked that Nanu knows of the police's code names. Nanu leaves the building telling them not to worry about it. Anabel explains that Nanu once worked for the International Police as her superior and that he is correct with the information. Looker comes back interrupting the discussion with more Spanish, worried about another disaster, another UB found on Melemele Island. Looker claims that it may be Absorption/Beauty, describing the creature's unique body structure/speed and the amount spotted, the same Nanu that had previously reported. Anabel and the player leave the motel with the same jobs that they had used to acquire Nihilego, with the player being sent out to capture the UB. Looker wishes to help but he lacks a partner Pokémon to carry out the task (implying that Looker does not have the Croagunk that he had in previous titles) so Anabel wishes for him to stay behind once again in case back up is needed. Anabel leaves, and Looker provides the player with 10 more Beast Balls on behalf of Wicke. Additionally, if the player wishes to learn more about Nihilego, they can talk to Wicke for more information. Looker can also provide more information on this mission's current UB encounters, describing the Ultra Beasts as the Pokémon known as BuzzwoleS/PheromosaM.
The player and Anabel return after a successful mission and Anabel sends the data on UB-02 to HQ and Wicke. Anabel begins to feel faint, worrying Looker, however she affirms them that she is fine. Looker suggests another dinner for the three of them to help rest up and restore their stamina, and to celebrate their success on mission two. He provides suggestion with going to Battle Buffet found on the island. Looker leaves to to go make a reservation at the restaurant. Anabel provides more information on Nanu and his relationship with Looker, saying that he was once at the same level as Looker and that her own position on the International Police wouldn't have been done without Nanu. Looker returns speaking of a disaster, this time in German, about another UB sighting, once again on Akala Island. They make their way back to Akala's motel on Route 8, cancelling their plans for a feast.
100kr

The player returns to Akala Island's Route 8 motel, where they find Looker having conversation with Captain Mina, who he has gathered intel from on the upcoming UBs, with Anabel already out protecting the areas involved. Mina makes the claim that she was sent to run errands because she is not busy doing any trial work, the person she was ordered from is unknown and kept secret. She was given another order beyond this: to have a "real serious battle" with the player before she went back as a form of "trial of strength." A Pokémon battle ensues between her and the player. After their fight, she compliments the player on their strength and leaves.
Looker takes charge and gets the player and himself back on track to the mission and provides them with 10 more Beast Balls. He mentions that Wicke has finished analyzing the data on Buzzwole and Pheromosa and that information and questions about them should be directed to her. The next UB involved is an Ultra Beast known as Xurkitree, code named of UB-03: Lightning. It has tremendous electric strength and is found in two locations in Akala: Lush Jungle and Memorial Hill, with a total of two specimens found running around the island. The player makes haste and captures the two Xurkitree.
The player and Anabel return with with Xurkitree in tow, and Looker once again sends the data back to the HQ and Wicke. Anabel suddenly begins to feel a sense of vertigo before pulling herself together, worrying Looker, who states that this is abnormal for her to feel. Anabel passes it off, complimenting the player on their skill in battle. During her side of distracting and luring away the Xurkitree, she staretd to notice a pattern of the UBs becoming hostile towards her specifically, similar to that of prey or as an enemy, but Looker insists that she is just simply making things up. Nanu lets himself into the motel room once again, recognizing Looker as a man who he once knew as "100kr". There is another Ultra Beast that he came to inform the group on: BladeS/BlasterM, a species that was spotted on Ula'ula Island. Looker doubts Nanu's words, but as Ula'ula's kahuna, if something is not done about the UB, the island guardian would be upset and take it into their own hands. Anabel was quick to notice a relationship that Looker has with Nanu, one that Looker tells her to ignore, she then informs the group to meet at Route 13's motel.
Faller

At Route 13 the player join Looker and Anabel in on conversation, getting information on the supposed Ultra Beast: BladeS/BlasterM and are found in either Route 17 or in Malie Garden. Blade is known for its ability to cut through nearly anything, and Blaster is known for its ability to propel itself with its arms using the gas in its body. Anabel explains that the three will be in their usual positions, only to be hit by another wave of vertigo. Looker suggests that he ought to take her place instead, only to be met with Anabel insisting that she is fine. Looker provides the player with 10 more Beast Balls.
After catching UB-04, the player returns back to the motel, the UBs caught are now known as KartanaS/CelesteelaM. With this reveal, there is only one Ultra Beast left to be subdued in Alola. The group reminisces on the last mission, meeting so many people and the dangers and difficulties that occurred. Looker points out that Anabel has been acting strange, passing it off again, to which Anabel assumes it may be the lack of a dinner that the of them had been planning for the past couple missions. Anabel decides to go find somewhere to eat herself and exits the motel, leaving Looker and the player alone to converse among themselves. It appears that Anabel has been pushing herself too much, and she only hides her sense of upset behind a cheery persona to not let others worry.
Looker decides to tell the player about his experience in Alola, 10 year prior. Similar to how they are now, Looker was once a part of a three-person team created to destroy a UB, then known as a "dangerous creature" and they had succeeded in chasing it down, only for someone to create an accident. Nanu returns and interrupts the Looker's tale, implying the fault was of Looker himself, who had felt sorry for the creature they were intended to kill. This event had caused the third member of the three-person team to be killed themselves. Looker makes no argument, the third member wasn't prepared to fight against the UB. The unknown character is simply described as being bait, the International Police knowing that the UBs went after people who have passed through Ultra Wormholes. These people are bathed in a type of energy that can attract Ultra Beasts, reminding them of a familiar smell that can hopefully bring them back home. These people used as bait are called Fallers, a term used by the International Police to describe humans that made their way through an Ultra Wormhole and showered in the energy from the wormholes.
Nanu claims that Looker is repeating history, they have a Faller in their possession, the player. The player has passed through an Ultra Wormhole and being exposed to the energy that came from it (referring to the events of the main story's climax and passing through Ultra Space). Anabel returns and the story is cut short before Looker can finish, unable to find a place for them to eat at. Upon her arrival, Nanu greets Anabel and tells the group that another UB has appeared on Poni Island, informing them to meet at Seafolk Village. Their next meet is at the floating restaurant.
000

When arriving at the floating restaurant, the player meets only Nanu and Looker, with Anabel already out to guide the people out of harm's way. Looker had intentionally sent Anabel in the wrong direction, in fear that she is pushing herself too far. Saving them some time, Nanu and Looker return to their story that they had on Route 17. One Faller, the player, is with them, the other is Anabel, although she is unaware of this information. Looker and Nanu had found Anabel ten years prior as well, unconscious on the beaches of Poni Island, the same one they are currently meeting and just after finishing the mission with the previous UB they had to take out. Anabel had lost her memory aside from four things: Her own name, that she once lived in the Hoenn region, protecting a tower from the same region, and that she was once a very powerful Trainer. She was brought to the International Police and a full investigation was put on her after detecting large amounts of Ultra Wormhole energy. This got her interested in the International Police herself, surpassing Looker's own ranking.
According to Nanu, he finds the International Police terrible, especially after using the same strategies from ten years ago as they are now and using a Faller, considering previous attempts had failed. But while the International Police has done so before, Anabel had intentionally chosen this mission herself. Looker suggests that she may feel for the UBs, whether she's aware of the situation she was put in or not. Looker reestablishes the the fact the UBs are dangerous, and they will get hostile by the sight of a Faller, hoping that the hostility can be distracted or subdued. Looker had sought out the player in hopes that they are able to catch the UBs. Time is running low, and with Looker's attempts at misguiding Anabel, it is very possible that he may have put her in danger if she ran into any UBs. Before making their way to the next UB the player battles Nanu. Nanu takes his leave, and Looker says he won't let the him down, calling him by his own codename: 000. Looker tells the player of their final target: the UB known as Glutton, resting deep in the Resolution Cave and provide the player with, once again, 10 more Beast Balls.
Guzzlord has been caught after it has been seen eating with its back turned in Resolution Cave. Upon arrival back to the restaurant, Anabel appears to be safe and sound with Looker. All Ultra Beasts have been contained and the two adults thank the player for their efforts. Anabel and Looker intend to report back to Aether Paradise so that information on Guzzlord can be sent to Wicke. Anabel invites the player to return with, providing directions to the VLFS's lower labs. Wicke also thanks the group for helping out with the situation caused by Lusamine, making statement that it's nice to see the "negative assets" be used for something positive instead. After wondering his whereabouts, Looker bursts into the room speaking Japanese and interrupting the discussion, speaking of another disaster. A new mysterious black, yet some how shining, object was seen flying across the sky. Looker insists that this was another UB, but Anabal claims that HQ hasn't identified any more Ultra Beasts, and that all the known UBs were contained by the player. Wicke reassures that this likely was not a UB and that both the foundation's members and the International Police are working in tandem looking over Alola to find more clues, and none have been reported. Anabel and Wicke suggest that Looker is just tired and "dazzled" by the events that have occurred. Anabel notifies Looker that their job is finished, heading out for vacation until their next line work is called. Looker rest back at the motel on Melemele Island, where the player can return to speak to him at any time. Anabel claims to meet with Nanu, but is not seen again outside the Battle Tree.
After the mission, the text "The UB conservation mission is complete! Alola shines beautifully" is shown in place of the usual chapter title.
Necrozma

After all UBs have been contained, the player is able to speak to Wicke about the Ultra Beasts they have secured. Additionally, they may return to the motel on Melemele Island and speak with Looker about the potential UB that he may have seen. He will inform the player that what he saw was headed towards Ten Carat Hill.
When the player arrives to the destination an encounter is made, similar to that of the Ultra Beasts, with a species of Pokémon known as Necrozma. Necrozma is said to have come from another world much like the Ultra Beasts, and is even said to be reminiscent of such. Despite this, no records of it being recorded as such have been found. Bringing Necrozma back to Looker and saying "I finished the mission" will have him review the Pokédex, reiterating that the HQ hasn't heard anything about there being another UB, and that Necrozma may just be another rare Pokémon.
