Daybreak (Japanese: ヒスイの夜明け Hisuian Dawn) is the name given to a free content update to Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It launched as Patch 1.1.0 on February 27, 2022 after being announced in a Pokémon Presents on the same day. Accessing the Daybreak story requires receiving Mission 20: "The Researcher of Myths".
Plot
A mysterious phenomenon emerges across Hisui as mass outbreaks of Pokémon start occurring in multiple places, accompanied by rainstorms. Alongside Mai of the Diamond Clan and her partner Munchlax, the player sets out to investigate these occurrences.
The story of Daybreak begins with Mai noticing something grabbing her Munchlax's attention as he keeps disappearing without warning. She has a hunch that there could be a strange phenomenon sweeping through Hisui and she tasks the player to explore a location on Ramanas Island in the Obsidian Fieldlands to see what could be holding up Munchlax's curiosity.
After going out to investigate the area, the player finds a group of Hisuian Zorua and reports the findings back to Mai, who remarks that it is strange to see Zorua out of their natural habitat. She instructs the player to report the findings to Cyllene. After reporting, Cyllene wonders if space-time rifts could be responsible, but she decides it's too early to know for sure. Mai then interrupts the meeting with news that Munchlax was reacting to multiple areas in the Obsidian Fieldlands and there was a mass outbreak at each of them. Cyllene remarks that these gatherings must be different from the known mass outbreaks and suggests to name the new phenomenon a "massive mass outbreak" and sends the player into the Obsidian Fieldlands to observe. Before setting out into the Fieldlands, Mai confides in the player that she witnessed her Munchlax running into the rain and that's where the outbreaks occurred. She starts to draw a link between the phenomenon and wonders why Pokémon are gathering when there's particularly heavy rain.
After observing a few outbreaks, Mai asks the player about what they learned, to which the player confirms the link between massive mass outbreaks and rainstorms. Calaba arrives and suggests the player go to the hairdresser in Jubilife Village. There, the player catches up with Arezu. She remarks that a friend saw a mass outbreak of alpha Pokémon in the Crimson Mirelands, to which Mai suggests the player should look into. After the player confirms the findings, Mai remarks that the same phenomenon is likely to occur in the Cobalt Coastlands. After investigating the Coastlands, Mai tells the player that the Coronet Highlands would be the next place to investigate, but she has yet to hear of any sightings of mass outbreaks there. She asks to meetup at the Highlands Camp should any occur.
In Jubilife Village, Mai tells the player that she heard a rumor that could be key in unlocking the mysteries behind massive mass outbreaks. To test the theory, she asks the player to bring 10 Mushroom Cakes to her in the Secret Hollow in the Alabaster Icelands. After fulfilling the request, Mai tells the player that they may return to Jubilife Village, and that she will report her findings when they next meet. Upon returning, the player again encounters Mai who has no recollection of asking for or receiving the mushroom cakes. She suspects that a Pokémon could be taking the guise of people to stir up mischief. She then reports that a mass outbreak has been sighted in the Coronet Highlands. At the Highlands Camp, the player encounters Sabi, who reports that she had a vision of something running from a group of alpha Pokémon.
After the player examines the outbreaks in the Highlands, Mai remarks that there is only one area left to investigate and sends the player out to the Alabaster Icelands. At the Icepeak Camp, Lian arrives and remarks that massive mass outbreaks in the Icelands seem different from those that happened elsewhere, as they happen in blizzard conditions instead of heavy rainfall. After observing the Icelands. the player meets up with Mai, Adaman, and Irida. Adaman tells the player that Lian and Melle investigated the last outbreaks. Mai then notes that her research for now is complete. She remarks that we still do not know what causes the mass outbreaks and that they pose a threat to people without a strong Pokémon at their side.
Adaman and Irida then take the player to the Obsidian Fieldlands to witness daybreak. They reminisce about how beautiful it is and how they can thank both Dialga and Palkia for allowing this time and space to coexist. Irida tells the player that she spread the word around Hisui to tell people to be alert to massive mass outbreaks during rainstorms. Mai announces that the investigations are over for now, but pledges her and Munchlax's help to the player whenever needed.

Massive Mass Outbreaks
- Main article: Mass outbreak → Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Completing the main story of Daybreak (up to and including request # 102) unlocks massive mass outbreaks. These differ from regular mass outbreaks as they aren't limited to a single occurrence and an area can have between 11-15 massive mass outbreaks. They are exclusively tied to rainstorms (or blizzards in the Alabaster Icelands) and offer increased Shiny odds.
Photography studio

The player will now be able to take photos with a multitude of characters and their Pokémon. These can range from other Galaxy Team members, members of the Diamond or Pearl Clans, and Cogita. Each character has two expressions they can portray.

Training grounds
The Paths of Tenacity and Solitude were added to the Training Grounds in the Daybreak update. They both offer a variety of battle challenges. Below is a description of each.
Path of Tenacity
- Main article: Path of Tenacity
The Path of Tenacity is unlocked after completing Request 102, titled "Daybreak." This path allows players to engage in three consecutive battles against members of a specific group. Initially, players can battle the Galaxy Team. The Diamond Clan and Pearl Clan become available for combat after completing Request 106, "Adaman's Hope," and Request 107, "Irida's Wish," respectively.
Path of Solitude
- Main article: Path of Solitude
The Path of Solitude is unlocked after completing Request 102: "Daybreak." This path allows the player to select a single Pokémon to battle. The chosen Pokémon species will determine the Pokémon that Ingo uses against the player in the challenge. Completing each Pokémon's Path of Solitude will add a mark to the player's Pokédex. Requests 108 to 122 can be unlocked and completed through Path of Solitude.
Request 104 is also accepted here. See additional requests above for more information.
Eternal Battle Reverie
- Main article: Eternal Battle Reverie
The Eternal Battle Reverie is a battle facility like feature that can be unlocked after completing Request 102: Daybreak and catching Arceus. By sleeping in their quarters, the player will dream of being in the Hall of Origin. Here, Arceus will test the player to test their luck and skill against a variety of Pokémon, including all the Legendary Pokémon and Arceus itself. The only exceptions are the Mythical Pokémon. Upon attempting the challenge for the first time, Eternal Battle Reverie can be accessed anytime afterwards by choosing "I'd rather battle" when trying to use the bed in your quarters.
Trivia
- The Daybreak update is the first free content update in the core series.
