Upon first visiting the route early in the game after entering Rustboro City, most of the route cannot be accessed, with the only object of potential interest being a Super PotionRSE or ZincORAS. However, as the player progresses through the game and gains access to Meteor Falls, one can battle several Trainers and many Secret Base locations become accessible. The northern section of the route can only be traveled to with Surf, where a small bay, a small maze-like forest, and a mountainous area can be explored. This route is also the only area in which Jigglypuff and SwellowRSE reside in Hoenn.

Route 115 first appeared in Blastoise Transforms. After returning to Hoenn with the Red and Blue Orbs, Maxie and Archie were attacked by Red and Green, who had followed them from Kanto after they attacked Bill and stole the orbs from him. A Multi Battle ensued between the four Trainers, with each of them utilizing Mega Evolution. Meanwhile, Groudon and Kyogre, which Blaise and Amber had manipulated Hoopa into summoning from their respective resting places, started moving towards Archie and Maxie's position, drawn to the power of the orbs. Amber and Blaise followed them, expecting to find their respective leaders along with the orbs; while they indeed found them, due to their changedoutlooks, they failed to recognize them.
In Groudon Returns, although Red and Green succeeded in defeating Archie and Maxie's Pokémon, the two villainous team leaders were able to make contact with Groudon and Kyogre and let them merge together with the orbs, triggering their Primal Reversion. The two super-ancient Pokémon proceeded to demonstrate their increased power by easily defeating Red and Green, as well as sinking the nearby S.S. Tidal. Despite Ruby and Emerald witnessing this, Ruby chose to not help the people in trouble and instead prioritized saving the planet from the incoming meteoroid. For this purpose, they headed for Meteor Falls in Kyogre Returns, but found their path blocked by an energy field produced by Groudon and Kyogre, which were headed the same way. They tried to punch their way through with Latios and Latias's attacks, only to get themselves knocked out by the super-ancient Pokémon.
