A Tamer (Japanese: もうじゅうつかい Wild Animal Tamer) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They are young men with whips and lollipops.
They generally use version-exclusive Pokémon, such as Arbok and Sandslash.

A Tamer made a cameo appearance in a flashback in Punching Poliwrath as one of the Trainers that wanted to challenge Red to a battle after his win at the Indigo League, but he was considered to be a "boring" match.
