(もうじゅう = "wild animal" or "beast", つかい = "tamer". In English, the word "tamer" itself is self-evident enough so there's no need for a redundant translation.) |

A Tamer (Japanese: もうじゅうつかい Tamer) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They are young men with whips and lollipops.
They generally use version-exclusive Pokémon, such as Arbok and Sandslash.
In the Generation I games, other Trainer classes are also seen with a whip, but, in their case, it is a leftover from the development of Pokémon Red and Green since Game Freak considered the idea of humans fighting against Pokémon themselves at one point, according to Ken Sugimori.[1]
