Alakazam (Japanese: フーディン Foodin) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Kadabra when traded. It is Abra's final form.
Biology
Physiology
Alakazam is characterized by its human-like structure and its large moustache. It has grown slightly since evolving from Kadabra and has become much more lanky. Alakazam now has brown sections over its forearms and knees. It has lost the Zener markings and its tail which it had as a Kadabra, and its head (and more importantly, its brain) has become much larger, giving it extremely powerful mental powers. It is bipedal with three toes on each foot, each of which has a white claw, and an extremely prominent mustache (which is less prominent in females - see below). It wields a silver spoon in each hand which acts as an amplifier for its special abilities.
Gender differences
A female has a shorter mustache.
Special abilities
It is said that Alakazam is known to have mastered every type and form of psychic ability, including, but not limited to, telekinesis, telepathy, ESP, psionic abilities, levitation, defensive techniques, mind control, and telekinetic blasts. Alakazam are said to have excellent memory and can remember everything that it has experienced upon hatching as an Abra, and has an IQ that exceeds 5,000, making it the most intelligent non-legendary Pokémon. Upon possessing amazing psychic skills and knowledge, Alakazam is proficient with the use of the elemental punches, giving it the ability to cause serious damage on any foe that resist it's psychic moves. Although Alakazam is quite fragile and prefers to use it's psychic abilities for movement and battle, it is quite capable of learning a broad range of fighting moves. As a fully evolved Pokémon, Alakazam is capable of using the moves Hyper Beam and Giga Impact. Alakazam, and its pre-evolution, Kadabra, are the only known Pokémon that learn Kinesis.
Behavior
Each Alakazam carries two spoons everywhere it goes. These spoons are said to increase this Pokémon's psychic ability greatly.
Habitat
Alakazam live in urban areas, close to humans. They are mostly found in abandoned buildings left to disrepair. Its home range is the same as Abra and Kadabra.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga
Alakazam debuts in Buzz Off, Electabuzz! when Red frees the Pokémon kidnapped by Lt. Surge; instead of his beloved Abra, the President of the Pokémon Fan Club finds himself with a not-so-cute Alakazam.
Sabrina is also seen in possession of an Alakazam, which she uses to hand out the eight Spoons of Destiny (Red also received one prior to appearing at Cerise Island from Giovanni). Otherwise, it is not seen as much in battle as pre-evolved form.
In Volume 9, after Red's aptitude test to be the Gym Leader of Viridian City, a swarm of wild Pokémon suddenly appear outside the Gym after being attracted by Pokémon March music, one of which is an Alakazam. Blue captures all of them with his Scizor. Alakazam is seen again in Volume 13 as part of Blue's team for the Gym Leader faceoff, and again in Volume 24 as one of the Pokémon in Viridian Gym. It defeated Chuchu easily using a combination of Role Play and ThunderPunch.

Trivia
- Alakazam has the second highest Special Attack of all non-legendary Pokémon, tied with Porygon-Z and Ulgamoth.
- Alakazam weighs less than its pre-evolution, Kadabra. Its Pokédex entries offer a possible explanation as to why this is: Alakazam's brain increases in size upon evolution so that it has to move its body using psychic energy, which would cause its muscles to weaken and atrophy because it never uses them. This could also be due to Kadabra having a large tail and Alakazam not.
- Although it doesn't have a tail, Alakazam is able to learn the move Iron Tail, possibly due to its pre-evolutions having tails.
- Alakazam could be seen as a counterpart to Machamp. They are both the last stage of a three-part evolutionary family, they reach their final stage by trading, and they both have a 75% male gender ratio. Also, Alakazam excels at the Special Attack stat, while Machamp excels at Attack. They are both in all regional Pokédexes. Their evolutionary families are next to each other in the National Pokédex.
- Alakazam, along with Kadabra, are the only Pokémon able to learn Side Change by leveling up.
- Despite being said to have weak muscles (as well as a low Attack stat), Alakazam has been seen using physical attacks, such as punching, many times in the anime, usually to great effect.
- Every other letter in Alakazam's name is a vowel; they are all A.
- Alakazam has the lowest average Performance of any fully-evolved Pokémon, and third lowest overall, only beaten by Gulpin (second) and Feebas (first).
- In Red and Blue Versions, an Alakazam sent out by an opponent while the player's Pokémon has low health will have the cry of a Gastly.
- In HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, Alakazam is the same height as Ethan.
Origin
Alakazam is based on a magician and also a spoon bender. It also shares similarities to goats and foxes, both animals with ties to magic.
Name origin
Alakazam's name is another incantation used in stage magic, similar to Abracadabra. Its Japanese name can be spelled Houdin, and is probably a reference to Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin or Harry Houdini, who were both famous magicians.
In other languages
- German: Simsala - In German, the phrase goes "Abra, Kadabra, Simsala(bim)" instead of Alakazam at the end.
- French: Alakazam
- Korean: 후딘 Hudin
- Chinese (Taiwan): 胡地 Hú Dì - Transliteration of its Japanese name.
- Chinese (Hong Kong): 富迪 - Transliteration of its Japanese name.
