Arvin (Japanese: ペパー Peper) is a recurring character in the manga series Pokémon Adventures. He is seeking out the Herba Mystica to heal his injured Mabosstiff.
Character
Arven tends to come across as standoffish and uninterested in people, though can be quickly swayed into caring about others. He has a strained relationship with his father after being abandoned for most of his childhood, and instead considers his Mabosstiff his closest family member.
Arven is a skilled cook, with his sandwiches being the only thing that can keep Violet's Miraidon in check.
History
Arven debuted in Speeding! Paldea's Prince of Speed!!. He was first seen at Uva Academy's opening ceremony, impatiently waiting for it to end so the Treasure Hunt could begin. Eventually, Arven fell asleep only to be abruptly woken up when Violet crashed the ceremony and competed in a race against some teachers. To Arven's confusion, Violet somehow had Miraidon in his possession but refused to answer how he came across it. Instead, Arven was dragged along to help Violet search for the Herba Mystica.
In Discover! The Quaking Earth Titan!!, while traveling to the location of a Titan Pokémon, Violet explained how he befriended Miraidon and revealed it was Arven's father, Professor Turo, who told him to find the Herba Mystica. They eventually arrived at Asado Desert, where Violet challenged Iron Treads, the Quaking Earth Titan. Despite his best efforts, Violet was easily defeated, allowing the Titan to flee. Recognizing that Iron Treads was too powerful at their current level, Arven and Violet decided to challenge the Titan again after they trained and caught more Pokémon, Arven also revealed to Violet he wanted the Herba Mystica to cure his partner Mabosstiff. While battling wild Pokémon, Violet came across a pair of Team Star Grunts attempting to recruit a girl named Penny and drove them off.
In Raid! The Dark Crew Base!!, after Penny left, Violet received a call from someone going by the name "Cassiopeia". The caller recruited Arven and Violet as members of Operation Starfall, a plan to defeat each of Team Star's five squad bosses and force the group to disband. Days later, Arven and Violet arrived at the Segin Squad's Base, where they were approached by Clavell. Disguised as a student named Clive, Clavell requested to join Operation Starfall as well, which Cassiopeia accepted. Violet was unable to see through Clavell's disguise, much to Arven's bafflement, but Clavell quietly told Arven to play along. Arven and Violet battled through waves of Team Star Grunts in a Star Barrage while Clavell played support by healing their injured Pokémon. As he only had one Pokémon capable of battling, Arven was unable to keep pace with Violet, leaving the latter alone to battle the Dark Squad boss Giacomo. Eventually, Giacomo was defeated and stepped down as boss before revealing that Team Star's prolonged truancy was because they were waiting for their true leader, the "big boss", to return to them.

In Fierce Battle! The Stony Cliff Titan!!, Arven and Violet were approached by Penny, who revealed she joined Operation Starfall as a member of Cassiopeia's supply unit. As a reward for disbanding the Segin Squad, Penny gave information on the location of one of the Titans. Later, at South Province (Area Three), Arven and Violet encountered the Stony Cliff Titan, Klawf. Using the area's terrain to its advantage, Klawf kept dodging Arven and Violet's attempts to attack it. Under Violet's suggestion, Arven went to the nearest watchtower to use it as a vantage point. After reaching the top of the tower, Arven found an injured Nemona, who explained that she was resting to recover from a Gimmighoul attack. Once she learned that Arven and Violet were facing a Titan, Nemona begged them to let her join in the battle. Arven reluctantly agreed, and together with Nemona, he launched a pincer attack at Klawf, forcing it into the path of Violet's next attack. With Klawf defeated, Arven treated Violet and Nemona to a sandwich made from the Sweet Herba Mystica that Klawf was guarding. When he fed some to Mabosstiff, its cold body started to become warm again.
In Evolve! The Second Fire Evolution!!, Arven received a call from Giacomo, who informed him where the next Titan resided. At West Province (Area One), Arven and Violet found Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan, dropping large boulders down a nearby hill, preventing anyone from reaching the summit. They easily dodged the boulders with Miraidon's speed, but when Arven noticed an injured woman lying on the road, he forced Violet to take a detour. The woman, a traveling street performer named Mireia, revealed she was responsible for Bombirdier's rampage, as she earlier tried to calm it with her music only for her efforts to have the opposite effect. Using her music, Mireia distracted Bombirder, allowing Arven and Violet to launch a combined attack, taking down the Titan and gaining access to its supply of Bitter Herba Mystica. Afterward, Arven made sandwiches for everyone, including Mabosstiff, who regained the ability to open its eyes.
In PASV13, while searching for the Quaking Earth Titan in the Asado Desert, Arven and Violet were told by Cassiopeia about a rumor that Team Star's Schedar Squad were looking for a bodyguard. Violet told Arven to stay behind while he raided the Schedar Squad's Base before they could increase security. Worried for his friend, Arven called Clavell and asked him to go help Violet. While he waited, Arven was approached by a girl named Scarlet, who had somehow managed to steal Miraidon. After Arven deduced that Scarlet was acquainted with Nemona, Scarlet revealed her occupation as a treasure hunter and that she needed Miraidon's abilities to complete a job request. Promising to return Miraidon once she achieved her goal, Scarlet agreed to help Arven restore Mabosstiff to full health if he kept Miraidon under control. With information obtained from Cassiopeia, Arven and Scarlet traveled to East Province (Area Three) to take on the Lurking Steel Titan.
In PASV17, Arven and Scarlet began searching for the Titan, but only found giant holes littered around the province. While having a picnic to rest up, their food was eaten by the Titan, an Orthworm. They pursued the fleeing Titan with Miraidon, only to end up falling into a trap. Orthworm lured Miraidon into a pit too deep for it to climb out of, then began filling it with dirt to bury everyone alive. When Orthworm suddenly stopped, Scarlet combined her Pokémon's moves to create a makeshift hot air balloon and free everyone. They found that Violet and Nemona had also arrived, then teamed up with them to send Orthworm falling down one of its pits, defeating it. Arven made sandwiches from the Salty Herba Mystica, restoring Mabosstiff's ability to bark. Scarlet returned Miraidon to Violet, stating it was of no use to her until it regained its full strength. They were then interrupted by Cassiopeia, who revealed the Quaking Earth Titan made a reappearance and requested they quickly raid the Navi Squad's Base.
In PASV19, Cassiopeia explained that a rogue faction of Grunts came up with a plan to raid the remaining bases themselves and take over Team Star. This would allow them to change the rules about stepping down when defeated, making further raids pointless. Violet and Arven chose to face the Titan while Scarlet and Nemona took on Team Star. The next day, Arven and Violet went to have lunch at the Treasure Eatery, only to find the building closed. The employees explained that a co-worker went missing while passing through Asado Desert to buy ingredients at Porto Marinada. Assuming this was the work of the Quaking Earth Titan, Arven and Violet promised to find the employee. They were stopped by the Medali Gym Leader Larry, who noted that he heard rumors about Arven and Violet's accomplishments and wished to test their skills as Trainers. Violet took on Larry in a Gym battle, which ultimately ended in the former's victory. Accepting his loss, Larry allowed Arven and Violet to go and face the Titan.
In PASV23, Arven and Violet took a detour to Cascarrafa and paid a visit to the Kofu Lounge. They found that its owner, Kofu, wasn't there and had previously left too help find the missing Treasure Eatery employee. Worried that something may have happened if Kofu had yet to return, Arven and Violet went to investigate at the Colonnade Hollow. Back at Asado Desert, they found that Iron Treads had started sharing its supply of Herba Mystica with a Great Tusk, creating a second Quaking Earth Titan. The combined might of the two Titans caused Violet to be sent flying and forced Arven into hiding on top of a watchtower. Violet later returned, having found Kofu at the Colonnade Hollow along with Saguaro, the home economics teacher. With Kofu and Saguaro's aid, Arven and Violet managed to take down both Great Tusk and Iron Treads. With both obstacles guarding the Sour Herba Mystica cleared, Arven made sandwiches out of them for everyone to enjoy.

Later, Arven and Violet arrived at Casseroya Lake, home of the False Dragon Titan. During a test run of Miraidon's new gliding ability, Violet accidentally came across a mysterious glowing stake embedded into the ground. Ignoring Arven's warnings to leave it alone, Violet pulled out the stake, which immediately crumbled into dust. They searched the area for whereabouts of the Titan, only to find nothing. While camping the night on Socarrat Trail, Old Roto revealed that it heard a bell-like sound produced from the stake when it was removed. Old Roto noted it heard similar sounds throughout their journey, including at the Icerend Shrine they briefly passed by after defeating the Open Sky Titan. Hearing that more stakes could possibly be found throughout Paldea piqued Violet's curiosity, only for Arven to remind him they had to focus on the Titan Pokémon.
The following day, Arven and Violet continued their search for the Titan, only to be nearly swallowed whole by a wild Dondozo. They were rescued by a Cabbie named Oscar, who said he heard rumors of a giant column of water coming from a nearby islet that contained only Tatsugiri. Arven and Violet went to the islet and were approached by the Titan Tatsugiri, who ordered its Dondozo underling to attack. With both boys unconscious, a group of Tatsugiri easily stole Arven's supply of food and ran off with the Titans. Later that night, Violet and Arven warmed themselves up by a campfire. When Arven asked Oscar to transport him and Violet to a nearby place where they could get something to eat, Violet was struck with inspiration. The next day, Arven, Violet, and Oscar flew above the skies of the lake. They quickly came across the Titan and its allies angrily chasing after a Skwovet that had taken Arven's container of ingredients from them. Skwovet tried jumping off a cliff to escape its pursuers, only for the Titan Dondozo to try and eat it, forcing Arven to save Skwovet's life by catching it with a Quick Ball. Grateful to Arven for saving its life, Skwovet joined his team and decided to help take on the Titan.
By riding in Oscar's taxi and using themselves as bait, Arven and Violet successfully tricked Dondozo into leaping high into the air, leaving it wide open to their Pokémon's attacks. Although Tatsugiri caught on to the plan, it was unable to keep its underling from being lured out of the water again when presented with fresh Berries. With Dondozo finally defeated, Arven made a sandwich with the Spicy Herba Mystica it was guarding, only for it seemingly have no effect on Mabosstiff. Tatsugiri appeared, revealing it managed to avoid defeat, and launched several attacks at Arven and Violet. Before it could finish the boys off, a fully-revitalized Mabosstiff stepped in and scared the Titan off. Arven's elation seeing his longtime friend back to fighting fit strength was cut short when Old Roto received two phone calls, one from Nemona, who begged them to help with a situation at North Province (Area Three) and Professor Turo, who requested that Arven take Violet to his laboratory at the Poco Path Lighthouse. Frustrated by his father's selfish behavior, Arven told Violet that they were going to help Nemona, but Violet refused as he wanted to use Miraidon's newly-gained ability to find and remove the stakes located around Paldea, further adding to Arven's frustration.

Skwovet is Arven's sixth known Pokémon. It was first encountered at Casseroya Lake, where it angered the Titan Tatsugiri by stealing a container of food it previously took from Arven. Skwovet tried escaping the Titan's wrath by leaping off a nearby cliff into the lake, only to be nearly eaten by the Titan Dondozo. Arven saved Skwovet's life by throwing a Quick Ball at the right moment. Despite Arven planning to release it once he retrieved the container, Skwovet asked to stay on his team out of gratitude. It subsequently assisted him and Violet in fighting the Titan Dondozo.
None of Skwovet's moves are known.
