| Description | This is not the same Red the sync pairs on Pasio know, but a different living legend. His everlasting journeys will continue on. |
Red (1996) (Japanese: レッド (1996) Red (1996)) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series. He forms a sync pair with Pikachu. This pair can be obtained through an EX Master Fair sync pair scout beginning on February 27, 2026. This pair can be raised to
6★ EX since it first released.
An alternate universe version of Red in his Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen design appears as separate character.
In the games
History
Red has experienced similar events to his core series counterpart as the player character of the Generation I Kanto games.
At some point Red travel to a parallel universe and arrived on Pasio.
Rumors of a Strange Red
After seeing a different version of Blue than Red knew, win a tournament, he decided to challenge him to a Pokémon battle. Blue is shocked to see a different version of Red. Chase and Elaine notices Red looks similar to the Red they knew, but has different vibes than their Red. Blue accepts the challenge and battles Red. Red uses his Pikachu, while Blue sends out his Pidgeot. As Blue battles Red, Elaine notices that something is off with Red, Chase thinks it's because Red isn't used to how Blue and Pidgeot are battling. Red is then shocked when Blue Mega Evolves his Pidgeot into Mega Pidgeot. But despite the surprising Mega Evolution, Red and Pikachu still try their best to defeat Blue's Mega Pidgeot. After the battle, Red leaves.
While in Pasio thinking about his hometown, Red encounters the Professor Oak from this world. Professor Oak explains that Blue told him where Red was and he wanted to meet the different version Red than he knew. After listening to Professor Oak, Red tells Oak that he better go too, with Oak encouraging Red to continue his journey.
A few day later, rumors of Red spread among the Kanto Gym Leaders. Ethan tells Elio and Rosa about how he met and battle Red, and how he is different from the Red he knew.
Red eventually encounters the alternate version of Red from this world. After locking eyes with each other, the two Reds decided to battle.

Trivia
- Red is based on the player character of the Generation I Kanto-based games.
- Red is the first character in Pokémon Masters EX to have multiple versions of the same character from alternate universes to appear in the game.
- The cry for Red (1996)'s Pikachu is Pikachu's original cry from the Generation I games, rather than the voiced cry other Pikachu in Pokémon Masters EX use.
- Red's EX outfit is a reference to how Red was shown while on the Game Boy.
- Despite story-wise Red (1996) is a "different character" from regular Red and have is own ID, the game treat him just like a Red skin, since: they share the same Dex number and they cannot appear together in the Lobby and in the Lodge expeditions.
Origin
Red's 1996 design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow. Pikachu is the player's first Pokémon in Pokémon Yellow. In addition, Red's Pokémon Generations and Pokémon Adventures counterparts have been depicted with a Pikachu. Pikachu's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
