Once awake, her mother, an accomplished {{p|Rhyhorn}} racer, began training Serena to ride Rhyhorn. Serena's mother wished for her daughter to follow in her footsteps, however, Serena was not eager to practice. In the opening of ''[[XY002|Lumiose City Pursuit!]]'', Serena was shown trying to control her mother's Rhyhorn while riding it but was struggling. She ended up getting thrown off and then announced that she hated the training regimen.

She then sat down to watch the news which was reporting that a rampaging {{p|Garchomp}} was causing destruction to [[Lumiose City]]. When it climbed the Prism Tower, she saw [[Ash Ketchum|a boy]] trying to talk to it, putting himself in danger while doing so. After the Garchomp was calmed, Serena looked at the boy intently. The next day, while feeding Rhyhorn, she thought aloud that something interesting was going to happen and that it involved the boy on television.
Later that evening, Serena complained about her earlier practice leaving several scratches over her face. She sat down to watch a news report covering an incident currently going on in [[Lumiose City]]. She saw a young man trying to calm down a rampaging {{p|Garchomp}} at Prism Tower and realized that he was [[Ash Ketchum]], someone she had known from before. The next day, while feeding Rhyhorn, Serena notes that something interesting was going to happen, and that it involved Ash.


Her Pokémon journey began in [[XY003]]. She announced to her mother that she would travel to Lumiose City to [[Professor Sycamore]]'s lab to obtain her [[Starter Pokémon|starter Pokémon]]. Before doing so, she spent time picking out an outfit. She asked her mother which of two hats looked better, and her mother selected a beret. Serena tossed the beret aside and picked up the other hat saying that whatever her mother picked was certain to be the unfashionable one. This is an early example of Serena's interest in fashion and clothing. The episode ended with Serena arriving at Professor Sycamore's lab and meeting the three starter Pokémon she could choose from.

Serena (Japanese: セレナ Serena) is a future traveling companion of Ash who debuted in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!.

History

Serena first appeared in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!, where she was forcibly woken up by her mother's Fletchling. In Lumiose City Pursuit!, she attempted to practice Rhyhorn racing so that she may follow in her mother's footsteps.
