Rinto first appeared in JN051. He was first seen at Rock Tunnel, watching the World Coronation Series battle between Ash and Genba. After seeing Farfetch'd run off after defeating Genba's Gurdurr, Rinto spoke to Ash about Farfetch'd's huge potential. He then had a battle against Ash and Farfetch'd using his Gallade and won with just one move. Rinto is very observant and analytical, analyzing Ash's Farfetch'd and his battling style. Despite respecting other Trainers, Rinto acted with a certain amount of sarcasm towards Ash in his relationship with his Pokémon, such as ignoring Ash's presence and talking only to his opponent's Farfetch'd.
