Entei (Japanese: エンテイ Entei) is a legendary Template:Type2 Pokémon. First appearing in the Generation II games, it is one of the three legendary beasts created by Ho-Oh when the Brass Tower burned hundreds of years ago.
Entei comes with the ability Pressure, which causes the foe to use two PP instead of one each time it uses a move.
Entei does not evolve, and no Pokémon evolves into it.
Biology
Physiology
Entei is a lion-like creature covered in brown fur. It has gray plates and a cape that makes it look as if it's carrying a volcano on its back. Entei has white paws and black bands on its legs, It has a red face with a white plate that resembles a handlebar mustache on its face, and a three-pointed yellow crest on its forehead.
Gender differences
Entei is a genderless species.
Special abilities
Entei can shoot flames that are hotter than volcanic magma.
Behavior
Habitat
As a member of the legendary beast trio, Entei are constantly on the move with no set place to hang around in. However, it is speculated that Entei (as well as the other legendary beasts) is not a unique species because Pokédex entries state that an Entei is born every time a volcano erupts.
Diet

In the anime
The first appearance was in the movie Spell of the Unown, in which an illusionary Entei appeared to Molly Hale after she made a wish on the Unown.
A real Entei later appeared in the episode Entei at Your Own Risk.
In the manga
Pokémon Special
Entei was awakened by Yellow along with its two counterparts, and the three raced around Kanto and Johto looking for trainers to help them defeat the Mask of Ice to free Ho-Oh. Entei eventually pairs up with Blaine, and later Silver. In Pokémon Special, Entei's fire has a healing effect, burning away disease and evil auras. Blaine uses this fire to burn away the Mewtwo cells infecting his arm, and DJ Mary's Smeargle copies this power using Sketch.
In the TCG

Other appearances
Super Smash Bros. Melee
When released from a Poké Ball, Entei unleashes a volcanic Fire Spin that deals a lot of damage to any opponents that get trapped in it.
Game data
NPC appearances
- Pokémon Ranger: Gordor considers Entei to be the best and most loyal of the legendary trio. The player captures it when it is first unleashed in the Jungle Relic but it is still taken by the Go-Rock Squad, using their new Super Styler. Entei later acts as the final boss of the game.

Trivia
- Entei can be seen in the photograph above the green table in the Misthouse Lodge in Pokémon Ranger.
- Entei shares the same species name with Quilava and Typhlosion. They are all known as Volcano Pokémon.
Origin
It has aspects of several different animals, but most prominently it resembles a male lion.
Name origin
Entei's Japanese name is likely a combination of 炎天 enten, blazing heat, or just 炎 en – an alternate reading of honō – flame, and 皇帝 kōtei, emperor.
