Take Down (Japanese: とっしん Charge) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.

Effect

Take Down does damage, and the user receives recoil damage equal to 25% of the damage done to the opponent.

If the user of Take Down attacks first and faints due to recoil damage, the opponent will not attack or be subjected to recurrent damage during that round.

Self-inflicted recoil damage from Take Down from the previous turn can be countered if the opponent does not make a move on the following turn. If Take Down breaks a substitute, the user will take no recoil damage.

In Stadium, no recoil damage is taken if Take Down knocks out an opponent.

Trivia

• In Generation II, Shellder can only learn Take Down by using TM09 in Generation I to teach a member of the Water 3 Group the move, transferring it to Generation II, and then breeding a Shellder or Cloyster with it. Although Shellder can still learn Take Down via breeding in Generation III and further generations, the player must start by purifying a Shadow Shellder in Pokémon XD and then transferring it to other games for breeding.
• The Japanese name for this move is the same as the English name of the move Charge.
  • Coincidently, the Japanese name for Charge also translates as "Charge," causing some confusion between the two moves.
