Luxio (Japanese: ルクシオ Luxio) is an Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Shinx starting at level 15, and evolves into Luxray starting at level 30.
Biology
Physiology
Luxio is sometimes referred to as looking like a young lion. It has a black mane around its face, unlike its pre-evolution, Shinx. It also has two yellow rings around each of its front legs, whereas Shinx only has one around each.
Gender differences
The tufts of hair in a male Luxio's mane are longer than those of the female. Similar to Shinx, the portions of blue on a Luxio's hind legs are longer for females.
Special abilities
As Electric-type Pokémon, Luxio are capable of using moves such as Charge and Spark.
Behavior
Luxio communicate among each other using electrical pulses from their claws. They live in small groups.
Habitat
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
In the wild, Shinx, Luxio, and Luxray generally hunt for food.
In the anime
Luxio appeared in the movie The Rise of Darkrai. It was among the Pokémon in the garden. Luxio seemed to be shy, as it hesitated before it ran to Ash and his friends' Pokémon. It participated in the short-lived massive fight.
It also made a brief cameo at the beginning of Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
In Leading a Stray!, a Luxio helped a Wailmer that was trapped in the sewers and the Wailmer made it back into the ocean safely and evolved into a Wailord.
Another Luxio appeared in Sticking With Who You Know!.

Luxio, the Spark Pokémon. By touching friends with its front paws, Luxio is able to communicate through the sparks it emits.

In the manga
Platinum was attacked by a pack of Shinx and Luxio, the former of which had broken its claws and could no longer communicate with its pack. To regain its "touch," it defeated both Wig and Lax, but then decided that it should also fight Pearl's Pokémon. Afterwards, Pearl helps it regain its comrades' trust, and it leaves happily.
The same Luxio made a few appearances afterwards as a Luxray before it joined Pearl's team and was dubbed Torahiko.

Trivia
- The pose of Luxio's Platinum sprite is similar to that of the Great Sphinx in Egypt.
- Luxio is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 363.
Origin
Luxio is based on an adolescent lion.
Name origin
The name "Luxio" comes from the Latin lux, which means light, and a corruption of leo, which means lion. Also, the Karnak temple complex in Luxor, Egypt has a famous avenue of sphinxes. If Luxio's name is derived from the origin of its pre-evolution Shinx, then both its name and Luxray's name may take root in this temple.
