Eevee Day

"November 21 is Eevee Day."[1] The date "11/21" can be read as "Eevee" using goroawase spelling.

Eevee Day (Japanese: イーブイの日 Eievui Day) is an officially recognized observance in celebration of Eevee, and by extension, its Evolutions, also known as the Eeveelutions. The date was chosen as the numbers "11/21" can be read in goroawase as i-i-bu-i, spelling イーブイ Eievui, the Japanese name of Eevee.

Originally created by Pokémon fans, Eevee Day was officially acknowledged by The Pokémon Company with the launch of Project Eevee in 2017, and the observance was certified in 2018 by the Japan Anniversary Association (Japanese: 日本記念日協会 Nihon Kinenbi Kyōkai).[1] Various events, reveals, and releases are held across many different Pokémon media on and around Eevee Day.

Early history

Mentions of Eevee Day by Pokémon fans predate its official recognition by The Pokémon Company. The oldest Pokémon fan art tagged "#イーブイの日" (Eevee Day) on the Japanese art website Pixiv was uploaded by user ピカチュウくん ("Pikachu-kun") on November 3, 2009, in which the user encouraged fellow Pixiv users to create Eevee fan art and post them on November 21 with the #イーブイの日 hashtag.[2] Eevee Day would later be recognized by Game Freak employees such as Junichi Masuda as early as 2011.[3]
