Tepig (Japanese: ポカブ Pokabu) is a Fire-type Pokémon.
Tepig evolves into Pignite starting at level 17, which evolves into Emboar starting at level 36.
Along with Snivy and Oshawott, Tepig is one of three starter Pokémon of Unova available at the beginning of Pokémon Black and White and Black 2 and White 2.
Biology
Physiology
Tepig is a pig-like Pokémon, primarily orange in coloration with the additional colors of black, pink, and yellow on various portions of its body. It has large, ovular eyes, an archetypically piglike ruddy-pink nose, and a thick stripe of yellow over its snout. Much of its face has black coloration, and its ears, long and oblong, are positioned closely together on the top of its head. Tepig has short legs, with the extremities of its forefeet being black in coloration. There is a band of black on its lower back and rear, from which extends its coiled tail, topped with a ruddy-red bauble-like adornment.

It can blow fire from its snout. Tepig are very nimble, so can dodge attacks with ease. Tepig and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon that can learn Heat Crash.

Major appearances
Tepig appears in The Battle Club and Tepig's Choice!, who was previously owned by an arrogant Trainer, but was released because it lost against a Deerling during a battle. Ash caught it after gaining its trust. It later evolved during a battle with its previous Trainer.
Other
A Tepig makes an appearance in In the Shadow of Zekrom!, under the ownership of Professor Juniper, as one of the starter Pokémon to be chosen by Trip.
Minor appearances
In A Connoisseur's Revenge! multiple Trainers' Tepig were seen at a Poké Mart.

Tepig, along with Oshawott and Snivy appear when Black accidentally drops his box containing the Pokémon. The Tepig eventually joins his team and is named "Tep". White also has a Tepig in her possession called "Gigi" that is an actress for the BW Agency. The two get along very well and eventually Tep becomes an actor for the BW Agency as well.
In the Be a Master!! Pokémon BW manga
Tepig is Cheren's starter Pokémon in the Be a Master!! Pokémon BW manga series.

- Tepig and its fellow Black and White starter Pokémon were first revealed as silhouettes on the May 9, 2010 episode of Pokémon Sunday. They were later completely revealed in the June 2010 issue of CoroCoro.
- Tepig has the lowest base stat total of all Fire-type starter Pokémon.
- Tepig, along with Snivy and Oshawott, has the lowest base experience yield, with a base of 28.
- The Tepig family are the only Unova starter Pokémon to have a signature move, Heat Crash.
- Tepig is the only unevolved Fire-type starter Pokémon that is fully quadrupedal.
- The Tepig family is the only Fire-type starter Pokémon family where no members have names that start with "C".
- Tepig, along with the other two Unova starter Pokémon, are the only starter Pokémon to evolve at an odd number: 17.
Origin
Tepig is based on a saddleback piglet. It and its evolutions, as stated by Ken Sugimori, were designed in a Chinese style.
Name origin
Tepig is a combination of tepid (lukewarm) and pig.
Pokabu is a combination of ぽかぽか pokapoka (warmth circulating through one's body) and 豚 buta (pig) or ブー bū (oink).
