Later, after being unable to talk to Dot, Liko and Roy's determination to get stronger convinced Friede to hold a special training session for the rookies: this time, Fuecoco and Sprigatito faced off against Captain Pikachu and needed to land only a single hit on the category to win the match. While they initially struggled against his Double Team, Fuecoco and Sprigatito destroyed each one of Pikachu's copies after Liko figured out his behavior, with Sprigatito managing to almost score a Scratch. After a lunch break, Fuecoco battled against Sprigatito once more to see how much the special training paid off. In the end, despite being at a type advantage, Fuecoco was knocked out by Sprigatito's newly-learned Quick Attack, resulting in Roy's defeat. This battle was the first step for the new Rising Volt Tacklers to get closer to Dot, who let them know that the Black Rayquaza was in Paldea. | In Special Training with Cap!, Fuecoco sparred against Liko's Sprigatito. In Quaxly, We Can Do It, Fuecoco was used in a battle against Spinel's Pokémon alongside Roy as they teamed up with Liko's Sprigatito and Dot's Quaxly. During the battle, Wattrel started a fight with Fuecoco, which unintentionally allowed Fuecoco to defeat Spinel's Magneton with Ember; afterward, the two continued with their fight so Roy intervened to break up the fight and left the battle. As their bickering continued in the next episode, Roy was inspired by Friede to have them battle together to deepen their friendship and relieve some stress. Their opponent was Captain Pikachu, against whom they lost due to their lack of teamwork. Immediately after, the Brave Olivine flew through turbulence, which charged Wattrel with electricity, allowing it to boost its Spark and protect Roy from getting hit by a rogue tree branch. Seeing this as an opportunity to overpower Captain Pikachu, Roy, Wattrel, and Fuecoco trained the entire night in preparation for a combo move. The next day, they had their rematch against Captain Pikachu, with Fuecoco launching him and his teammate up by firing Embers downward to give Wattrel enough height to catch sufficiently strong winds and activate its Ability. Despite their improved teamwork, Captain Pikachu won once again, though their relationship was shown to have grown more amicable. | In Quaxly, We Can Do It, Fuecoco was used in a battle against Spinel's Pokémon alongside Roy as they teamed up with Liko's Sprigatito and Dot's Quaxly. In HZ043, Fuecoco was used to battle Coral's Glalie. Fuecoco struggled to land any attacks after Glalie froze the battlefield with Blizzard, preventing Fuecoco from standing up properly. Noticing Fuecoco's frustration, Roy had him use Stomping Tantrum, creating an ice fence that sent Glalie flying. Impressed by Roy and Fuecoco's determination, Coral decided to stop holding back, only to be forcibly pulled away by Sidian for a mission involving the Black Rayquaza. | In A Challenge from the Explorers, Fuecoco was used to battle Coral's Glalie. In HZ048, Fuecoco headed to Artazon with his Trainer for their Terastal Training's test. The battle was postponed due to the town having its annual Artazon Art Festival. He had a battle with Nemona's Pawmot instead, managing to score some hits before being defeated. Afterwards, he helped Roy create a flaming clay Charizard sculpture using his Flamethrower, impressing Brassius. During Roy's rematch battle against Brassius, he managed to terastallize for the first time and soon won the battle by using an unexpected Flame Charge, so he and his Trainer passed the test.
In HZ055, Fuecoco was used to battle Hassel's Pokémon alongside Brassius's Dolliv in a Tag Battle, struggling against his Baxcalibur due to its Thermal Exchange Ability. He still held his own while dealing some damage with Disarming Voice, but ended up losing despite Terastallizing.
| |||
In HZ061, Fuecoco went up against Gym Trainer MC Sledge's Sableye and easily won with Flame Charge. Fuecoco was used as Roy's second Pokémon in Roy's Terastal Training test against Ryme after Kilowattrel was defeated, managing to avoid and power through Houndstone's attacks and defeated it with singing encouragement from Roy. He then went up against Ryme's Toxtricity, but struggled to deal any significant damage on it. In the end, even after Roy's singing motivation and Terastallizing, Fuecoco was defeated by Toxtricity, causing Roy to lose the match and fail the test.
In HZ062 Fuecoco participated in Nemona's intense training session with Liko and Dot's Pokemon to prepare for his rematch against Ryme. Once Roy and Fuecoco's training was done they both went to Ryme's second concert for their rematch. Upon seeing Roy and Fuecoco's resolve Ryme decides to have one rematch as an exception to the test, a 1 on 1 with Fuecoco against Toxtricity. Both Pokemon clash head to head, with Fuecoco's new song and battle tactics of infrequent assaults catching Toxtricity off guard and damaging it properly this time, forcing it to Terastalize. Fuecoco subsequently does the same and after an intense final clash with Hex and Flamethrower, Fuecoco defeats Toxtricity and wins the rematch, allowing Roy to pass his implementation test.
In HZ067, Fuecoco was used as Roy's first Pokémon in the Course Students Battle Tournament against Floragato. Both Pokémon were evenly matched at first, with Fuecoco using Flame Charge to increase his speed and Floragato using her vine to grab him. Roy then recalled him for Kilowattrel. After Kilowattrel's defeat, it was back to Fuecoco vs Floragato. With encouraging singing from Roy, Ryme, and the audience, Fuecoco sang as well and evolved into Crocalor. Both Crocalor and Floragato were soon Terastallized, with Crocalor overpowering and defeating Floragato, winning Roy the battle. After their victory, Ryme and Nemona praised Crocalor and Roy for their victory.
In HZ068, Crocalor faced off against Lucius's Galarian Moltres in a training battle. Despite being nervous at first, Crocalor withstood Moltres's Fiery Wrath and countered its ill effects with Stomping Tantrum. Crocalor was then tossed around in the air by Moltres's Hurricane, but he took advantage of it to get himself higher before unleashing a supereffective Disarming Voice on Moltres. Crocalor was then Terastallized to do more damage, but even though Moltres was still standing, it was impressed by Roy and Crocalor's strength and returned to its Poké Ball.
In HZ069, Crocalor was with his Trainer at the Countryside Harvest Festival. Crocalor and Roy wandered off to a stall where they both accidentally swapped bodies after trying out a malfunctioning Synchro Machine. After a series of events at the festival with Liko and Dot, Roy and Crocalor eventually swapped back to their own bodies once the machine had been fixed, only for it to break soon after.
In HZ071, Crocalor accompanied Roy and his friends to the Crystal Pool, up on Oni Mountain. He was then used to battle a wild Terastallized Milotic that confornted the group, after some struggling against Milotic's agility in the water, Dot started planning with Quaxwell and Floragato to lure Milotic out of the pool, with Roy having Crocalor attack it once it surfaces. After Milotic emerged again, Crocalor and Milotic both used Disarming Voice against each other in a singing display, with Crocalor managing to calm Milotic down so it could let the group stay in peace.
===Personality and characteristics=== | ===Personality and characteristics===
[[File:Roy and | | ||
Fuecoco is shown to enjoy singing and eating, as expected of his {{p| | Crocalor, even as a Fuecoco, is shown to enjoy singing and eating, as expected of his Crocalor. At first, Fuecoco would get embarrassed and run away when there was someone nearby hearing him sing. However, after meeting Roy and through his encouragement, Fuecoco started to gain confidence in his singing and started to not mind when others joined in. He is also shown to be clumsy, such as when he accidentally slid off the Brave Olivine. In addition, Fuecoco is usually a friendly and upbeat Pokémon who doesn't get upset too often, as he quickly became friends with Liko's Sprigatito and Dot's Quaxly, even maintaning his friendship with them after they both evolved. Despite this, Fuecoco has shown to have a short temper, such as when he got frustrated with Wattrel for interrupting it in mid-battle against Spinel's Magneton.
As first seen in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part Two), Crocalor when he was a Fuecoco greatly admired Friede's Charizard and looks up to it, wanting to help and be around it all the time, even becoming upset when the Flame Pokémon is not around. Mollie theorized that the reason why Fuecoco was on the Brave Olivine to begin with was to be with Charizard. Fuecoco also wants to become strong like Charizard and enjoys watching it no matter what it is doing. In addition, Fuecoco seems to be very good friends with Charizard. When he reunites with Charizard in HZ068, Crocalor happily gives it a hug, as the Flame Pokémon is proud of him for evolving and becoming stronger.
Roy and Crocalor, while he was a Fuecoco, quickly formed a strong bond after first meeting each other, as they thought about each other even when they were apart and went out of their way to find one another again. Their bond has led them to become partners in The Ancient Poké Ball when Fuecoco stored a Poké Ball inside his mouth so Roy could catch him. Crocalor, like his Trainer, is excited to battle. He would often give his all but doesn't feel bad about losing, especially when Roy assures him that he tried his best. They are also almost identical in personality and thus are the perfect match for one another. Ever since they swapped bodies in HZ069, Crocalor and Roy have a better understanding of each ohter.
| |||
Although he has shown to be gluttonous, Crocalor enjoys certain types of food, such as berries and spicy flavored food. He also enjoys eating sweets, as shown in The Bittersweet Truth, when he and Roy got excited about eating the sweets that Murdock and Mitchell made after they did an unexpected bake-off. In addition, he doesn't like sharing his food with others and would get defensive if he felt his food was being threatened. However, despite this, he does know when to share with others, as seen in An Unexpected Picnic!, when he offered to share his sandwich with a wild Wattrel.
Despite being a Fire type, Crocalor doesn't seem to get bothered by water as seen when he was still unevolved. Fuecoco also has a habit of being insensitive to the feelings of others, but it is unintentional, as seen in Special Training Time! when he didn't realize that he was blocking Wattrel's sunlight and getting in its personal space, as he wanted to be close with his teammate, which has led them to argue. However, after growing closer as a team, Fuecoco got along much better with Wattrel. Still, despite his improved relationship with his teammate, Fuecoco gets into arguments with Wattrel, as shown in Fiery Galarian Moltres, when they fought for a Grepa Berry. However, after Wattrel evolved into Roy, Fuecoco is on much better terms with his teammate and enjoys flying with it. His friendship with Kilowattrel continues to grow after evolving as well.
After evolving, Crocalor still retains his cheerful personality, enjoyment of singing and eating, but is more powerful and confident than ever. His singing has also improved. In addition, he can still be very clumsy, as he ocasionally drops his egg-shaped fireball from his head.

Roy's Crocalor (Japanese: ロイのアチゲータ Roy's Achigator) was the first Pokémon that Roy obtained at the beginning of his journey as a Fuecoco. He is usually outside his Poké Ball.
In animation
History
Pre-series
Prior to the series when he was still a Fuecoco, Crocalor was a wild Pokémon living in Paldea. At some point, he came across the Rising Volt Tacklers and joined them on their journey around the world aboard the Brave Olivine, after coming to admire Friede's Charizard.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series
As a wild Pokémon
Fuecoco debuted in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part Two). He was first seen welcoming Liko and her Sprigatito to the Brave Olivine alongside Pawmi. During the Explorers' attack on the ship, Fuecoco joined Friede's Charizard to help Orla fuel the ship's combustion engine.
In The Treasure After the Storm!, Fuecoco was surprised by Liko during one of his singing practices sessions and ran away. After the Brave Olivine made an emergency landing to fix some patches, Fuecoco accidentally slid from the aircraft and landed on the island's shore. He stole some Berries from the local wild Pokémon and food from Roy's Secret Base before being found by the boy, who had heard his singing from afar. Fuecoco got embarrassed and tried to run away, only for him to almost fall from a cliff if not for Roy's quick thinking. They bonded, and Roy encouraged Fuecoco to sing. After hearing a nearby commotion, Roy and Fuecoco both ran toward it and helped Liko and Sprigatito to run away from the wild Pokémon. They, however, did not give up on their hunt and successfully captured them after Fuecoco failed to launch an Ember to scare them away. After being rescued by Friede, Liko, and Roy gathered Berries for the wild Pokémon as an apology gift, and Fuecoco had to part ways with Roy.
In Found You, Fuecoco!, Fuecoco was informed by Mollie that Roy came looking for him the night before and had gifted him some Berries after not being able to find him. Wanting to see Roy again, Fuecoco hurried out of the aircraft and spotted the Explorers in the sea. After finding Roy, Fuecoco frantically told him that something was wrong. They partnered to face off against Zirc and his Rhydon, and Fuecoco was finally able to use Ember with some encouragement in the form of singing from Roy.
In The Ancient Poké Ball, Fuecoco joined in the fight against Amethio and battled alongside Sprigatito against his Ceruledge. Despite being two against one, Ceruledge was dominating the battle, which ultimately came to a halt when a Black Rayquaza emerged from Roy's Ancient Poké Ball, resulting in Amethio and the other Explorers retreating. After being healed by Mollie, Friede's Charizard gave it a Poké Ball, which he presented to Roy when he returned to the Brave Olivine and allowed Roy to catch him. Afterward, they set off on the Brave Olivine, with Roy becoming a member of the Rising Volt Tacklers.
With Roy
In Special Training with Cap!, Fuecoco sparred against Liko's Sprigatito. However, they didn't make much progress, as both Pokémon tired themselves into a draw after consecutive uses of Ember and Leafage. Later, after being unable to talk to Dot, Liko and Roy's determination to get stronger convinced Friede to hold a special training session for the rookies: this time, Fuecoco and Sprigatito faced off against Captain Pikachu and needed to land only a single hit on the Mouse Pokémon to win the match.
In Nemona and Brassius and…, Roy used Fuecoco in his battle against Brassius at the Artazon Gym. Fuecoco battled against his Sudowoodo, only to struggle before realizing it wasn't a Grass type and that it was a Rock type. While he was at a type disadvantage, he learned Stomping Tantrum during the battle, which dealt super-effective damage to Sudowoodo. Despite managing to deal some good damage and Sudowoodo Terastallizing into a Grass Tera Type, which gave Fuecoco the type advantage at that point, Fuecoco couldn’t stand up to the Imitation Pokémon's Terastallized power and was defeated, with Roy suffering his second official loss in a row.
In Quaxly, We Can Do It, Fuecoco was used in a battle against Spinel's Pokémon alongside Wattrel as they teamed up with Liko's Sprigatito and Dot's Quaxly.
In Kabu's Battle Training!, Fuecoco participated in a Gym challenge set up by Motostoke's Gym Leader Kabu. Fuecoco's role was to keep the Litwick flames lit while Sprigatito attempted to extinguish them. Though Fuecoco struggled to keep up with Sprigatito, it ended up winning due to Liko deciding Roy deserved it more. He then went on to battle alongside Sprigatito against Kabu's Centiskorch and Wakaba's Rolycoly. The two struggled to damage Centiskorch and, despite learning Flamethrower, Fuecoco was knocked out.
In Charge! Galar Mine!, Fuecoco battled against the Explorers alongside Sprigatito until they encountered a Galarian Moltres that had an Ancient Poké Ball. After Moltres overwhelmed everyone and left Captain Pikachu injured, Fuecoco quickly escaped the Galar Mine with Roy, Liko, and the Mouse Pokémon. In the next episode, Fuecoco was brought to the Motostoke Pokémon Center to recover from its battle with Moltres. After recovering, Fuecoco helped to battle Moltres again to calm it down. Thanks to Lucius's Arboliva, the group succeeded and the Legendary Pokémon returned to its Ancient Poké Ball.
In The Stolen Treasure, Fuecoco and Wattrel teamed up with Sprigatito to battle Tepen to get the Ancient Poké Ball back from him, after he stole it from Roy. However, the three of them were put to sleep by Tepen's special Sleep Powder that his Foongus had.
In Fuecoco…Becomes a Crook?!, Fuecoco accompanied Roy in helping the Rising Volt Tacklers on a job assignment that involved a group of Sandile and its evolved forms, who were disturbing some archeologists. Upon finding the group, Fuecoco and Roy quickly befriended them after finding out they were only protecting their Eggs. When the archeologists' digging equipment disturbed the Krookodile and its family, they went on a rampage and tried to destroy the machinery. However, by learning Disarming Voice, Fuecoco managed to calm Krookodile and the others down.
In A Challenge from the Explorers, Fuecoco was used to battle Coral's Glalie.
In The Plan to Capture Rayquaza, Roy had Fuecoco stun Chalce with Stomping Tantrum, keeping her from attempting to capture the Black Rayquaza. In the following episode, Fuecoco and Friede's Charizard combined their strength to take on the Black Rayquaza. Later, after witnessing Charizard be defeated, Fuecoco refused to back down and learned Flame Charge in the process. He teamed up with Liko's newly evolved Floragato to launch an attack strong enough to send the Black Rayquaza flying backward, though he failed to do any real damage. Afterward, the Black Rayquaza took off into the skies.
Personality and characteristics
Crocalor, even as a Fuecoco, is shown to enjoy singing and eating, as expected of his species.
However, after Wattrel evolved into Kilowattrel, Fuecoco is on much better terms with his teammate and enjoys flying with it.

Trivia
- As a Fuecoco, Crocalor was the first:

- Fire-type first partner Pokémon to evolve last, as the previous Fire-type first partner Pokémon have either evolved first or second in their native region groups.
- Crocalor shares both his Japanese and English voice actor with Goh.
- Prior to Crocalor's gender being confirmed as male in Mission: Find Oinkologne's Partner!, Roy's VA Yuka Terasaki had hinted towards the Pokémon being male in an interview, stating that Roy and Fuecoco have a "friendship between men".[4]
