(Japanese: ホゲータとぼくの歌 Me and Hogator's Song) is the 62nd episode of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, and the 1,294th episode of the Pokémon animated series. It first aired in Japan on August 23, 2024.
Plot
Following Ryme's latest concert and her victory over Roy, the latter is still feeling downcast, but Liko and Dot quickly manage to cheer him up. While Dot feels that Roy's Terastal Training is over following his failure to pass the test, Nemona reminds them that Ryme did tell Roy to come back later, so he should still have another chance. However, as Liko and Dot point out, changing right back in without a new plan to win won't do him any favors. Nemona suggests that he should wait until tonight's concert to rechallenge her and spend the time until then to look for a clue to win. She invites Roy to do some Hyper Training with her, which will help increase one's stamina, speed, and power. To Liko and Dot's surprise, she extends the invitation to them as well, despite their hesitation and reluctance.
The first bit of Hyper Training the group is put through is running through the snow. While Roy and Fuecoco enjoy it, Liko and Dot soon fall down out of exhaustion and notice that Nemona, to their surprise, had actually run out of stamina out even before them. The second method of exercising is pushing enlarging snowballs towards a target tree with their Pokémon, though Dot and Floragato quickly give up and take shelter in a small igloo, not liking the cold. For the third exercise, Roy and Fuecoco run up a slope while countering and dodging attacks from Liko, Dot, and Nemona's Pokémon. At dusk, the group finally takes a break. While Roy feels the training has been effective, he knows it's not necessarily enough to beat Ryme. Nemona notes that Roy's tactic of singing and attacking got repetitive enough for Ryme to know what was coming, so he needs to mix it up to win. Liko asks Roy what made him like singing in the first place, and he reveals it is due to the time he spent with his parents. They're sailors, and they used to take him with them on their ship and sing together while they were sailing. Ultimately, though, they had to head out on a long voyage and leave Roy in the care of his grandfather. Roy had continued to sing the song he had learned from his parents and befriended a lot of Pokémon on his home island, until he had met Fuecoco, a Pokémon that likes singing just as much as he does, which had resulted in them quickly becoming friends. Recounting this tale makes Roy suddenly realize something, and he decides to do some more Hyper Training with Fuecoco and Nemona. Knowing that there won't be much time left if Roy intends to make it in time for the concert, Liko and Dot agree to head back right away so they can stall for time for Roy to return.
As night falls over Montenevera, Ryme's concert has been going on for a while now, but Liko and Dot are getting concerned that Roy has not returned yet, especially when the concert enters its open participation segment. They know they need to buy Roy some more time, but they're both reluctant to draw in the spotlight to do so. Fortunately, Quaxwell takes the initiative and enters the stage for them, leaving them with no choice but to follow. They put up a performance of Quaxwell dancing while Floragato uses her flower bud to knock off the Berries they're holding. The performance is successful, and it ends up buying just enough time for Roy to arrive and request another shot at having a test battle with Ryme. Seeing that Roy is serious, Ryme accepts his challenge and announces that this'll be a special one-on-one test, her Toxtricity versus Roy's Fuecoco, which Roy accepts. Meanwhile, Nemona reunites with Liko and Dot, revealing that the training Roy and Fuecoco did after they left didn't involve any battle training, much to their surprise.
MC Sledge starts the battle, which Ryme initiates with a series of Overdrives. Fuecoco dodges all of them and uses Flamethrower as a counterattack. While Toxtricity successfully blocks the attack with Boomburst, Liko and Dot recognize that the attack was closer than last time, demonstrating the effectiveness of the training they went through. Ryme also recognizes Roy's improvement and orders a Venoshock barrage, which Fuecoco dodges with Flame Charge before landing a hit and then attacking with Disarming Voice. The sound move barely fazes Toxtricity, who lands an Overdrive on Fuecoco in response. Fuecoco stands back up, and Roy tells him to start belting out Disarming Voices again and again. He and Fuecoco start singing a new song while dodging and bouncing back from Toxtricity's attacks. Nemona notes that this is the same song that Roy and Fuecoco and sung after Liko and Dot had left. While Roy's previous sing-and-attack strategy had failed, there seems to be something different about it this time. As a proof to Nemona's words, the entire crowd watching the battle joins in on the cheerful song as well, while the repeated Disarming Voices are finally starting to have an effect on Toxtricity. Fuecoco uses Flame Charge to land another hit, bouncing all around Toxtricity before landing yet another Disarming Voice and following it up with Stomping Tantrum, landing a super effective blow on the Electric/Poison type and making the audience cheer loudly.
Ryme is impressed by Roy's performance, but she refuses to give up, revealing her Tera Orb and Terastallizing Toxtricity into a Ghost type, which Roy responds to by Terastallizing Fuecoco. Toxtricity attacks with a barrage of Terastal-boosted Hexes, all of which Fuecoco dodges while the crowd keeps singing and cheering. Fuecoco finally takes a hit from a close-range Hex, but his boosted Flamethrower pushes through and strikes Toxtricity, undoing its Terastallization and knocking it out. MC Sledge officially announces Roy as the winner of the match, much to his delight. Liko and Dot join him on stage, offering their congratulations and asking Roy about his new song. He explains that instead of singing to get stronger, he had finally remembered that singing is actually a way to convey one's feelings to others. His singing is about him connecting with Fuecoco, which his training had helped to remind him of. Liko understands that everyone singing together and sharing their feelings had been what had allowed Fuecoco to grow stronger. Ryme walks up to them and compliments Roy on figuring out the true purpose of singing. She feels Fuecoco has a lot of potential, but ultimately, it'll be up to Roy to make sure if Fuecoco can reach his full potential or not. Taking out her Rotom Phone, Ryme proudly announces that Roy has passed his test, sending him a stamp as proof. Roy's friends feel happy for him and now turn their attention towards Liko's upcoming test. Unnoticed by them, Liko's opponent, Grusha, watches them from the crowd before walking away.
