Petalburg Woods, referred to as Petalburg Forest in the anime, appeared over the course of several episodes. The dense forest is home to a wide array of wild Pokémon like Beedrill and Zigzagoon.
Its first appearance was in You Never Can Taillow, where Ash and ashfr sat down to enjoy a break. However, they were interrupted by an angry horde of Taillow. During the chaos, Ash encountered Brock again, and he agreed to rejoin Ash on his journey through Hoenn. Thanks to Brock's advice, Ash caught one of the Taillow that attacked them, while Brock's cooking abilities were able to settle the other rowdy Tiny Swallow Pokémon.
In In the Knicker of Time!, Ash and friends encountered a Knickerbockers (clothing) obsessed Trainer named Nicholai, who was looking to capture a Zigzagoon before going on to challenge the Petalburg City Gym Leader, Norman. Learning that May was Norman's daughter, Nicholai excitedly challenged the rookie Trainer to her first Pokémon battle and won quiet easily. Nicholai was later able to capture himself a Zigzagoon and used it in a battle against Ash's Taillow.
In A Poached Ego!, TRT intervened in the plans of Pokémon poacher Rico to capture a group of young Ekans and Koffing and illegally sell them. They were forced to release their Jessie and James into the wild to protect the Ekans and Koffing while they fended off Rico's Tyranitar by themselves. Because of James's earlier kindness, he gained a James afterwards. This episode also revealed that Petalburg Forest contains a Pokémon Center.
Ash stumbled upon a wild population of Treecko in Tree's a Crowd. Their current home, a large old tree, was close to death and ended up splitting in two. Fortunately, a seed appeared and Ash's newly caught Treecko planted it before leaving its community to look after the seed.
In A Tail with a Twist, Jessie caught her Jessie after witnessing its greedy behavior and becoming impressed by it. Ash and his friends visited another Pokémon Center to help Treecko recover from its battle with Seviper.
Ash and his friends left Petalburg Forest and reached the urban metropolis of Rinshin Town in Taming of the Shroomish.

Petalburg Woods first appeared from Nixing Nuzleaf to Tongue-Tied Kecleon, where Ruby met Wally there, trying to catch himself a Pokémon. He led Wally to the edge of Petalburg Woods that was right next to 105, and helped him to catch his very first Pokémon, a Kecleon. Wally thanked Ruby for his help by giving him a PokéNav, but before he could return Rara to him, the site was struck by a sudden earthquake and tsunami, separating the two.
In Mowing Down Ludicolo, Matt, Shelly, and Amber of Team Aqua fled into Petalburg Woods after stealing the Devon Parts from Mr. Stone, with Sapphire giving chase. Pokémon world locations |
Petalburg Woods (Japanese: トウカの森 Touka Woods) is a forest in western Hoenn that lies between Petalburg City and Rustboro City, in the middle of Route 104. It appears in Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.
Due to the presence of a Moss Rock, Eevee can evolve into Leafeon here in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Geography
Starting at what is later revealed to be the westernmost of two southern entrances, the player is led on a winding path through many patches of grass. The tall trees cast an eternal shadow over the ground, but it is still possible to see. It is dark enough, however, that other travelers have had the misfortune to drop and lose their items on the ground. It is possible to find these without technological assistance, but the Itemfinder makes searching a great deal easier.
The Petalburg Woods are abundant with wild Pokémon. Many low-leveled Bug-type Pokémon make it their home and can commonly be encountered in tall grass, but there are rarer Pokémon here as well. Slakoth and Shroomish can only be found within the confines of the forest. These rare Pokémon are often sought by collectors in nearby Rustboro City.
Near the northern exit to Route 104, a pair of saplings block a forked path to the east. When HM01 (Cut) has been obtained, and the Rustboro Gym Leader Roxanne has been defeated in battle, the bushes may be temporarily cleared. This allows access to the easternmost half of the forest.
The first time the player traverses the woods they travel north. On this trip, they encounter a Devon Corporation employee being attacked by a Grunt of Team MagmaROR/Team AquaSEAS, who requests assistance. Once the Grunt is defeated, the man will reward the player with a Great BallRSE or the Exp. ShareORAS, before making his way back to his company headquarters.
In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire only, the Moss Rock is located here.

Petalburg Woods, referred to as Petalburg Forest in the anime, appeared over the course of several episodes. The dense forest is home to a wide array of wild Pokémon like Beedrill and Zigzagoon.
Its first appearance was in You Never Can Taillow, where Ash and his friends sat down to enjoy a break.
In In the Knicker of Time!, Ash and friends encountered a knickerbockers obsessed Trainer named Nicholai, who was looking to capture a Zigzagoon before going on to challenge the Petalburg City Gym Leader, Norman. Learning that May was Norman's daughter, Nicholai excitedly challenged the rookie Trainer to her first Pokémon battle and won quiet easily. Nicholai was later able to capture himself a Zigzagoon and used it in a battle against Ash's Taillow.
In A Poached Ego!, Team Rocket intervened in the plans of Pokémon poacher Rico to capture a group of young Ekans and Koffing and illegally sell them. They were forced to release their Arbok and Weezing into the wild to protect the Ekans and Koffing while they fended off Rico's Tyranitar by themselves. Because of James's earlier kindness, he gained a Cacnea afterwards.
In A Tail with a Twist, Jessie caught her Seviper after witnessing its greedy behavior and becoming impressed by it. Ash and his friends visited another Pokémon Center to help Treecko recover from its battle with Seviper.
Ash and his friends left Petalburg Forest and reached the urban metropolis of Rinshin Town in Taming of the Shroomish.

Ruby & Sapphire arc
Petalburg Woods first appeared from Nixing Nuzleaf to Tongue-Tied Kecleon, where Ruby met Wally there, trying to catch himself a Pokémon. After evading Ruby's father Norman and visiting a hospital to deal with Wally's breathing issues, Ruby agreed to help Wally, lending him his Ralts, Rara, for the task. He led Wally to the edge of Petalburg Woods that was right next to Route 105, and helped him to catch his very first Pokémon, a Kecleon.
Gabby and Ty followed as well, but ended up almost getting drowned by Shelly's Ludicolo in an attempt to silence them. Despite Sapphire's Torchic succeeding in defeating Ludicolo with the help of Mr. Stone's Castform, Team Aqua managed to get away with the parts as Sapphire had to bring Gabby and Ty to safety.
Trivia
- This is the only forest area to have three exit points.
- This is one of the few locations in the Hoenn region to have cloudy weather.
