Rubina (Japanese: ルーベラ Rubella) is a recurring former antagonist who first appeared in Orla, Grounded. She is a member of the Explorers and is commonly seen at Indi's side.
History

Rubina debuted in Orla, Grounded, alongside Indi. During an argument between Karna and a pair of Exceed subordinates, they intervened in order to convince Karna to deliver the Strong Sphere parts. However, they soon found out Liko and Roy of the Rising Volt Tacklers being there and immediately engaged in battle against them, Dot, and Ult, using their Strong Spheres to power up their Paldean Tauros. The battle properly started in the next episode, where they ended up being defeated after their opponents discovered the pattern behind the Tauros's attacks. After retreating, they reported back to Spinel.
In The Dusk Ball That Wouldn't Open, Rubina and Indi spotted Ryan trying to trade a Dusk Ball housing a powerful Pokémon for a Strong Sphere and were seemingly about to accept the offer, only for Ult to show up, declaring himself as the Dusk Ball's owner. Recognizing him as a Rising Volt Tackler, Rubina put away the Dusk Ball, and the Explorer duo prepared for battle, powering up their Darmanitan with their Strong Spheres. They managed to overpower Ult in numbers and raw strength, but Ult managed to still win once his Dragonite emerged from the Dusk Ball, reacting with its Trainer's willingness to fight for others, forcing Rubina and Indi to retreat. In the next episode, Rubina and Indi fought against Ult and Roy, this time with each other's Darmanitan in their Zen Mode. Due to the assistance of a Rabsca army, they managed to keep the upper hand for the majority of the battle, only to lose once more as Ult's Dragonite reappeared and Mega Evolved alongside Roy's Lucario.
In Tinkatuff's Hammer Wasn't Made in a Year!, Rubina and Indi confronted Liko, Roy, and Ult at an Exceed distribution center. In the following episode, they used Super Strong Spheres, an upgraded form of the Strong Sphere, to strengthen the captured Six Heroes and force them to battle Liko and her friends. In the following episode, Amethio arrived to help battle the rampaging heroes. Despite their combined strength, Liko and the others eventually suffered a total defeat. Exhausted, the effects of the Super Strong Spheres wore off on the heroes, whose unconscious bodies were taken away by the Explorers.
In Dot and Penny's Top-Secret Mission!, Rubina managed to intercept an invasion of Dot and Penny at the Exceed Museum along with Indi and Chalce. After a battle against the two Trainers' Pokémon, Chalce managed to separate Dot from her friend and leave the rest to her and Indi. However, Penny and her Sylveon and Jolteon defeated Rubina's Scolipede and Indi's Drapion before Dot and Penny escaped with the Laquium data thanks to her newly evolved Gholdengo.
In HZ124, the younger Rising Volt Tacklers and Amethio infiltrated the Explorers HQ to rescue the captured Six Heroes. Rubina and Indi battled Liko and Amethio to prevent them from entering the building, using Super Strong Spheres to empower their Salamence. They were eventually defeated after Liko's Charcadet evolved into Armarouge and learned Armor Cannon.
In the following episode, Spinel lured Liko's group into a trap where each of them was isolated into a room containing an Explorers member and one of the Six Heroes. Rubina battled with Gouging Fire, but it eventually lost when Ult Mega Evolved his Dragonite then had it use Twister to send it crashing into its cage. Once each of the Six Heroes was taken out, Pagogo used its purifying power to cure them of the Laquium's effects. Liko and her friends escaped with the Six Heroes, but unbeknownst to them, Spinel recorded their encounter and manipulated the events to make the Rising Volt Tacklers appear as the villains. He used this to force the Rising Volt Tacklers into hiding from the public and advertise the Strong Sphere.
In HZ133, Rubina and Indi confronted Dot, Nemona, and Penny on Mount Pericarp. They revealed that they were aware of the Rising Volt Tacklers' plan to purify the Laquium Core using the power of Pokémon with eighteen different Tera Types. In order to prevent the plan's success, Rubina and Indi tried to faint some of the chosen Tera Type Pokémon, only for Hamber to step in and assist Dot's group. Once their Pokémon were defeated, Rubina and Indi were forced to flee. In the following episode, Rubina, Indi, and Spinel greeted the Rising Volt Tacklers at Laqua's summit.
In HZ135, Rubina, Indi, and and some Grunts used their Pokémon to stop the Rising Volt Tacklers from completing the ritual to purify the Laquium Core. They successfully took out Penny's Sylveon, only for Coral, Sidian, and Chalce to appear and reveal that they were no longer working for Spinel. Coral sent out Screamypuff, her Scream Tail, and had it take Sylveon's place as the Fairy-type user. Refusing to let his machinations be ruined, Spinel fused with the Laquium itself, causing the Core to rise from the earth. Rubina and Indi were forced to watch in horror as the Core began attacking anyone it perceived as a threat.
In HZ136, Rubina and Indi watched as Spinel became despondent over the loss of the Laquium Core and being defeated by Liko and her Meowscarada. When Umbreon abandons Spinel because of his actions, Rubina and Indi are unsure of what to do. What happened to Rubina and Indi specifically after the truth is exposed and Spinel is arrested for his crimes is unknown.
Character
Rubina has a stoic personality and is quite cold and calculating. Due to their use of Strong Spheres, both she and Indi battle without issuing actual instructions to their Pokémon, instead making them rely on their natural instincts, which makes battling against them hard to predict at times.
In HZ124, she is shown to be arrogant and ignorant to the condition of her Pokémon as she was ignorant about the state of her Salamence, saying that she didn't care about its current state, fully believing using a Strong Sphere guarantees victory even after being proven wrong multiple times. Despite her cold and stoic personality, Rubina is loyal to Spinel and follows his orders without question. She becomes shocked seeing his despondent behavior in HZ136 as Umbreon abandons him and is unsure about what to do. In HZ133, she is shown to use underhanded tactics to take down her opponent such as using Destiny Bond and Curse.

These Rabsca were used by Indi and Rubina as part of a strategy to impede Roy and Ult's Pokémon's movements. They were quickly defeated by Ult's Mega Dragonite. It is unknown whether these Pokémon actually belong to the duo or are part of the Pokémon at the Explorers's base.

Trivia
- Rubina mostly uses red Pokémon, so when she used Indi's Galarian Darmanitan, it changed to its Zen Mode to match that color.
- Even though they used Pokémon of the same species in some battles and different Pokémon in others, in every battle the Pokémon they used had a type in common (Fighting for Paldean Tauros; Fire for Darmanitan; Poison for Drapion and Scolipede; Dragon and Flying for Salamence; Ghost for Cofagrigus and Runerigus; Electric for Electrode).
- Rubina and Indi are tied for owning the most Pokémon of any character introduced in Pokémon Horizons: The Series, with eleven each.
