Master Mayonnaise (Japanese: マヨネーズ師匠 Master Mayonnaise) is a recurring character that appeared in Pokémon Horizons: The Series, debuting in Episode: Mega Evolution. He is a Mega Evolution specialist who lives in Lumiose City looking for new disciples to train with him.
History
Episode: Mega Evolution

Master Mayonnaise debuted in Mega Evolution - Roy. He first approached a crowd in order to spread Mega Evolution to more people, but only ended up catching Roy and Ult's attention. After talking about the basics to them, he gave each of them a Mega Ring and tasked them with defeating the Yellow Flash at the Lost Mayo Maze.
In Mega Evolution - Ult, Mayonnaise found Roy and Ult practicing Mega Evolution in an alleyway. Despite failing to defeat the Yellow Flash, Roy and Ult were determined to challenge it again and win. Impressed by the boys' fervor, Mayonnaise informed them that the key to mastering Mega Evolution was the bond between a Trainer and their Pokémon. At Mayonnaise's suggestion, Roy and Ult faced each other in a battle that ended in the former's victory. Mayonnaise criticized Ult's performance, stating that he lost due to not putting his full faith in his Sableye. As he left, Mayonnaise told Ult that as long as he failed to truly connect with Sableye, then he should just give up on trying to achieve Mega Evolution.
In Mega Evolution - Bonds, after taking Mayonnaise's words to heart, Roy and Ult once again challenged the Lost Mayo Maze, this time facing off and defeating Count Hoisin and Shōyu Ninja. Mayonnaise appeared before the boys and officiated their rematch with the Yellow Flash. As they fought, Ult managed to successfully Mega Evolve Sableye, while Roy formed a connection with the Yellow Flash, causing it to Mega Evolve as well, much to Mayonnaise's surprise. While Sableye eventually lost due to not being used to its Mega-Evolved form, Roy and Crocalor eventually emerged victorious over the Yellow Flash.
Mayonnaise, Count Hoisin, and Shōyu congratulated Roy and Ult for their success and revealed they created the Lost Mayo Maze to serve as a place to strengthen the bonds between Trainers and their Pokémon. Noting that Lucario saw potential in Roy, Mayonnaise suggested that he add it to his team, which Roy happily accepted. Roy and Ult then said farewell to Mayonnaise and his companions, who told the boys that how they utilize Mega Evolution is up to them.
Later, as he prepared to leave Lumiose City, Roy stopped by a clothing shop run by Mayonnaise in civilian clothing to change up his wardrobe.
Rising Again
A year later, in HZ131, Mayonnaise went to visit Roy and Ult in Levincia. Along the way, he stumbled upon Friede and took an interest in his Mega Starmie, tailing them insistently and earning their suspicion, though the situation was quickly cleared up once Mayonnaise revealed he was simply curious. He tagged along with Friede and met with the Rising Volt Tacklers, reuniting with Roy and Ult in the process. Mayonnaise gave a Lucarionite Z to Roy and then proceeded to have a battle against him, pitting his Hawlucha against Roy's Lucario. Hawlucha's showboating nature initially caused it to lose focus during the battle, but Mayonnaise had it Mega Evolve, granting a huge boost to its attack and defense. With its heightened physical prowess, Mega Hawlucha easily overwhelmed and defeated Lucario. With the battle over, Mayonnaise pointed out Roy and Lucario's failure to use the new Mega Stone, which meant they needed to master their aura powers even further, and agreed to help them train.
In HZ132, Mayonnaise was seen training Ult's Mega Sableye with his Mega Hawlucha, alongside Diana's Wash Rotom. He then battled against Roy in a rematch to see how far Roy and Lucario have gotten in their Aura training. During the battle, Mayonnaise Mega Evolved Hawlucha early, dominating the battle at first, but once Lucario calmed down and adopted a new fighting style the tables started to turn. Lucario manages to use its aura powers to parry and dodge Hawlucha's attacks, even landing a damaging hit for the first time against its opponent. With both Roy and Lucario in sync, Lucario Mega Evolved into Mega Lucario Z, impressing everone including Mayonnaise and Hawlucha. Both parties fought fiercely, with Lucario continuing to dodge and parry attacks, while also learning Aerial Ace on the spot to deal more damage, though Hawlucha manages to slam it to the ground. Hawlucha attempts a finishing Flying Press from above but Lucario counters it with Aerial Ace, defeating Hawlucha and winning Roy the rematch. After the battle, Mayonnaise is shown to be proud of Roy, Ult and their Pokemon, Friede then offered him a ride back to Kalos but Mayonnaise declined, wanting to promote the power of Mega Evolution in Galar and explore the region instead.
Character
At first glance Mayonnaise appears to be an eccentric and bold person, with a bolder passion for teaching people about the power of Mega Evolution regardless if they listen or not. Despite this he is a knowledgeable person at heart who knows the principles of Mega Evolution and the importance of bonds between people and Pokemon, offering advice and constructive critisism to trainers and is quick to point out what Trainers are lacking in battle such as Ult's case with his lack of trust in Sableye. Mayonnaise is additionally a skilled and strong trainer, able to Mega Evolve his Hawlucha in battle, and likes using tactical moves like Encore to goad his opponents Pokmon into traps and counterattacks. Just like his Hawlucha, Mayonnaise tends to be a showboater, making poses in battle and when greeting other people.
