Dot's Gholdengo (Japanese: ドットのサーフゴー Dot's Surfugo) is the second Pokémon Dot caught after becoming an official Pokémon Trainer and her third overall.

History

As a wild Pokémon

Gimmighoul joining Dot's team

Gholdengo debuted as a Chest Form Gimmighoul in The Terapagos I Don't Know, where it controlled Roy at some Paldean fort ruins in South Province (Area Three), making him unknowingly collect coins and deposit them into its chest. It reappeared in The Knight in the Ruins, a year later, where it did the same, this time to Dot and Ult as well, before Liko appeared and released them from its control. Later, it was shown to have stowed away on the Brave Olivine.

In Riding the Waves, Gimmighoul started to target Dot repeatedly, using its ghost energy to control her to go outdoors despite her not wanting to. After Dot decided to go surfing with her Quaxwell, Gimmighoul suddenly appeared on her board, but almost drifted away when it went to get one of the coins that fell out of its chest. Fortunately, it was saved by Dot. While surfing, they watched a wild Gholdengo surf by, and Dot realized that Gimmighoul idolized its evolved form and made other gather coins so it could evolve as well. Wanting to help it make its wish come true, just as she had her own, Dot offered her help to Gimmighoul and promised to keep on collecting coins. Gimmighoul was then asked by Dot if it wanted to join her team, which it happily accepted and was caught.

With Dot

In Tinkatuff's Hammer Wasn't Made in a Year!, Gimmighoul followed Dot's Tinkatuff into a scrapyard, where it continued to collect coins. At one point, it slipped and let a coin fall from its chest next to a Scrafty, who then demanded the rest of its coins. Tinkatuff then came to its rescue, scaring the Scrafty off and returning the coins. Later, after Tinkatuff had disappeared from the Brave Olivine, Gimmighoul became worried about her well-being. They soon found her on the ground, attempting to forge a new hammer with Corviknight feathers, accompanied by Coral and Sidian, who immediately engaged in battle with Dot. After Quaxwell was defeated and with Tinkatuff occupied, Gimmighoul stood up against the Explorers, though its lack of battling experience quickly led to it getting hurt and spilling some coins. Rather than collecting the coins, however, Gimmighoul picked up a feather and gave it to Tinkatuff, witnessing her evolve into Tinkaton before driving the Explorers off. Once the battle concluded, Tinkaton picked up the fallen coins and returned them to Gimmighoul.

Gholdengo and Dot

In Ult-imate Training, Gimmighoul faced off against Carmine's Sinistcha, but the battle quickly turned into a back-and-forth of Astonish, exhausting both Trainers, before being called off.

In Dot and Penny's Top-Secret Mission!, Gimmighoul accompanied Dot and Penny in infiltrating the Exceed Museum to gather data on Laquium. During the group's secret mission, it got distracted looking for the last coin it need to evolve, which led to it getting caught by Chalce, Indi, and Rubina. While Dot and Penny initially held their own against the Explorers, things turned bad once Gimmighoul was kidnapped by Chalce's Xatu, forcing Dot to try and rescue it. As Dot's Quaxwell and Tinkaton struggled against Chalce's new battle tactics, Gimmighoul pointed towards a coin it spotted in the distance, enabling Dot to throw the last coin it needed to evolve. Gimmighoul then evolved into Gholdengo, learned Make It Rain, and helped both Dot and Penny to escape, while retrieving its Trainer's Rotom Phone with the collected data intact. After their mission was complete, Dot and Penny said goodbye to each other with Gholdengo helping its Trainer reunite with the Rising Volt Tacklers.

Good as Gold activating

In HZ125, Gholdengo was brought out to battle Lucius's Arboliva, which was being controlled by Chalce, after Quaxwell got knocked out. Gholdengo and Tinkaton were able to take down Arboliva through a combination of Make It Rain and Gigaton Hammer, destroying its cage in the process.

In HZ133, Gholdengo was sent out to battle Indi and Rubina's group of Cofagrigus and Runerigus. When they tried to use Curse on it, Gholdengo's Good as Gold Ability prevented the move from affecting it. However, knowing the risk of Cofagrigus and Runerigus using Destiny Bond if it knocked them out, Gholdengo told Dot to let it defeat them anyway, which she did. After defeating Cofagrigus and Runerigus, Gholdengo was knocked out by Destiny Bond and Dot returned it to its Poké Ball to rest.

Personality and characteristics

Gimmighoul idolizing Gholdengo

Gholdengo is an easy-going Pokémon. As a Gimmighoul, it was more skittish and had the habit of controlling people and Pokémon nearby into collecting coins for it to store in its chest, as expected of its species. Each coin was so important for Gimmighoul that it would even risk its life to get one of them back, as seen in Riding the Waves. Gholdengo, while it was a Gimmighoul, easily snuck away from those it took control of and was stealthy, but has been discovered a couple of times. Also, despite its habit of collecting coins, Gimmighoul never meant to cause serious harm to anyone, as shown in Tinkatuff's Hammer Wasn't Made in a Year!, when it felt guilty that Tinkatuff had to put making her new hammer on hold to help it gets its coins back from a wild Scrafty and believed that it was the reason the Hammer Pokémon disappeared from the Brave Olivine.

After stowing away on the Brave Olivine, Gimmighoul took a particular liking to Dot, who quickly became its favorite target for collecting coins. While initially unpleased, she came to terms with this habit after sympathizing with Gimmighoul, mirroring the way it idolized a wild Gholdengo to her own admiration to Iono, which led to her catching it. Although she promised to continue gathering coins for it to evolve, Gimmighoul still kept controlling her and its new teammates on occasion, showcasing its mischievous side. Despite this, Gholdengo does care about Dot and is loyal to her, forming an unbreakable bond with its Trainer. Gholdengo and Dot even trust each other enough to know their intentions, as seen in HZ133. They share the same fascination for other Pokémon who can surf, such as Alolan Raichu.

Gholdengo, Quaquaval, and Tinkaton

As a part of Dot's team, it developed a close bond with Tinkatuff during the events of Tinkatuff's Hammer Wasn't Made in a Year!, after she defended it from a Scrafty and returned the coins it had accidentally dropped; this left such an impression on Gimmighoul that it later chose to put aside its coins to help Tinkatuff make her new hammer, leading to her Evolution into Tinkaton. Gholdengo even works well with Tinkaton, as seen in HZ125, when they worked together to defeat Lucius's Arboliva. However, Gholdengo can clash with Tinkaton, but they get over it quickly, as seen in HZ127, when they argued over a Sitrus Berry until Quaxwell broke them up and spilt the berry in half for them to share. Gholdengo became close with Quaxwell and gives its support for him, even maintaining its bond with him after evolving into Quaquaval. Upon witnessing Quaxwell's determination to get stronger, Gholdengo was inspired to do same and helped him in HZ128. It also looks up to Quaquaval and Tinkaton for their skills in Pokémon battles, as it sees them as its older siblings.

As a Gimmighoul, Gholdengo was an inexperienced battler and, therefore, was most commonly used as a last resort, but would not hesitate in entering a battle if it meant helping or protecting its friends. After evolving in Dot and Penny's Top-Secret Mission!, Gholdengo became much stronger and more reliable, with its newfound powers allowing it to blast through walls. Gholdengo also became capable of surfing as a means of transportation, and it deftly uses this skill both to disorient opponents in battle, such as Chalce, and carry its Trainer around. Gholdengo also dosen't mind surfing with its friends, as seen in Mochi Mayhem!.
