Ryan (HZ106)

Ryan (Japanese: ラァユ Rayu) is a character of the day who appeared in The Dusk Ball That Wouldn't Open. He is a street artist active in Manpūku Town.
Ryan was struggling to sell paintings by Grafaiai due to it only painting the color pink. Disheartened, he overheard some people nearby talking about their newly bought Strong Spheres. Ryan then wondered if he could buy one to empower his Grafaiai to help it paint better.
He met Ult after thinking he was stealing Nanab Berries, that Ryan had marked with Grafaiai's pink saliva. It turned out the Nanab Berries belonged to another Trainer and his Mabosstiff however, who chased Ryan and Ult away. After talking with Ult, Ryan revealed that his Grafaiai struggled to paint with different colors due to it being picky about its Berry diet. Going into the forest, they gathered other types of Berries, trying an Oran Berry first. Grafaiai finally learned to eat other Berries, gaining a blue colored saliva to paint with. Ryan and Ult then retreated to Ryan's treehouse. After hearing how Ult's Dusk Ball contains a powerful Pokemon, Ryan grew desperate to get a Strong Sphere to empower his Grafaiai, stealing Ult's Dusk Ball before leaving his treehouse.
Arriving in the Manpūku Town shopping district, he was about the trade the Dusk Ball for a Strong Sphere only for Indi and Rubina to arrive. Ult then showed up, inciting a battle against the Explorers. Grafaiai tried to help Ult's Sableye with its Sludge Bomb, but it was easily defeated afterwards. Ryan, feeling guilty about stealing Ult's Dusk Ball and causing this mess, begged Ult to abandon him upon seeing Sableye struggle, but Ult refused to quit. Ult's Dusk Ball responded to Ult's spirit, and it opened, revealing itself to contain a Dragonite. Dragonite easily defeated Indi and Rubina's Pokémon, and the Explorers quickly retreated. Ult chased after them and Ryan said goodbye to him, thankful to him for defending him and Grafaiai. Ryan then encountered Roy, who was looking for Ult. He told Roy where Ult went and then continued painting with Grafaiai in the streets of Manpūku Town again after being encouraged by Roy.

Grafaiai is Ryan's only known Pokémon. It is generally used to paint paintings for Ryan to sell as a street artist.
In The Dusk Ball That Wouldn't Open, Grafaiai was shown to have a picky diet, resulting in it only painting in the color pink. After Ult and Sableye got it to try new Berries, it became less picky and produced more colors to paint with. It tried to defend Sableye against the Explorers' Darmanitan, dealing some damage but getting defeated afterwards. After the battle, Grafaiai headed back to paint with its Trainer, this time being able to paint in a wider variety of colors.
Grafaiai's only known move is Sludge Bomb.
