The Moving Picture Company, or MPC, is a European visual effects studio that works on television and film. A subsidiary of Technicolor until its 2025 bankruptcy, it is currently a subsidiary of TransPerfect.[1] The studio has won Academy Awards for its work on Life of Pi, The Jungle Book, and 1917.
MPC was the lead VFX studio for POKÉMON Detective Pikachu, working on art direction, visual effects, and animation.[2] It is credited as MPC Film in the Pokémon Trading Card Game on cards associated with the movie.
Work
The Moving Picture Company designed about 65 Pokémon for POKÉMON Detective Pikachu.[3] Thirty of these designs, including Detective Pikachu himself, were fully animated by the studio.[2] Artists would consult with animal experts and design skeletal and muscular systems to determine how the Pokémon would look and move in a realistic style.[3] About 25 Pokémon, including Sawk, were ultimately cut due to disagreements within the team about their appearance.[3] The company has said that the giant Torterra scene was among the most challenging to animate.[2]
MPC Film has illustrated 15 cards for the Trading Card Game, all of which are associated with the movie. A full list of cards illustrated by it can be found here.
