Release information

In Japan, this card was released as a S-P Promotional card to commemorate the first network broadcast of Detective Pikachu on Nippon TV, May 22, 2020. From this date, customers who purchased at least five booster packs in one transaction, including at least one Great Detective Pikachu pack, from the Pokémon Center Online received a copy of this card with their order. Customers who purchased a Great Detective Pikachu booster box would receive four copies of the card with their order. Physical Pokémon Centers and Pokémon Stores did not begin the promotion until June 13, 2020 due to restrictions imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both promotions ran for as long as stocks lasted.[1]

Trivia

Origin

Detective Pikachu is one of the protagonists of Detective Pikachu and the movie of the same name. The Trudge Home attack is a reference to a scene in the movie, a still from which is used as the illustration. Detective Pikachu's expression in this scene provided the basis for many pieces of fan art and popularized the name Shiwa Shiwa Pikachu, or Wrinkled-Face Pikachu. An official plush was also made available.
