RK9 Labs is an American company founded by Carlos and Dana Pero[2][3] that specializes in tournament registration and management for competitive gaming.
Carlos and Dana are the parents of Xander Pero, a successful competitive Pokémon Trading Card Game player and contributing writer for Pokémon.com.[4] Carlos has cited Xander's friend inviting him to a City Championship in 2009 as the catalyst that eventually led to the founding of RK9 Labs.[5]
RK9 Labs's name appears to be a play on the Pokémon Arcanine. Its social media posts are occasionally accompanied by photos of Arcanine plushies.[6]
Work with Pokémon
RK9 has a close relationship with The Pokémon Company International. TPCi is RK9's most frequent client, and RK9 has a dedicated "Pokémon Events" section on its website. It has been the primary registration platform for most Play! Pokémon Premier Events since 2017, including every Pokémon World Championships since 2018.
The company handles all steps of the tournament registration process, from the initial payment, verification of player ID, and submission of deck lists (TCG) or team lists (VGC/GO). During a tournament, round pairings for TCG and VGC are posted on RK9's website, and at certain tournaments, matches can be reported online rather than with paper match slips. Following the conclusion of a given tournament, RK9 publicizes all submitted deck lists and team lists.
