The Nidoqueen's first appearance was in Mewtwo Strikes Back. Nidoqueen was one of the Pokémon that were captured and cloned by Mewtwo.

A Nidoqueen appeared under the ownership of Andi in The Bicker the Better. Her boyfriend, Oscar, had a Nidoking.

In the manga

Trivia

  • One piece of information of note is that Nidoqueen cannot breed, although it is not a genderless species, and its male counterpart, Nidoking, can breed. The same is true for Nidorina and Nidorino, respectively.
  • For some reason, Nidoqueen's shiny form is not the same color as her male counterpart's normal color, unlike her previous evolutions

Origin

Name origin

Nidoqueen's name may be based on the word needle. Alternatively, it may be based on 二 ni, two, or 二度 nido, two times/two degrees, referring to there being two distinct evolutionary lines using the name with similar names and traits. The second part of its name is simply queen, referring to its feminine gender.

In other languages

  • German: Nidoqueen
  • French: Nidoqueen
  • Korean: 니드퀸 Nideukwin
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 尼多后 (Ni Duo Hou) - A portmanteau of 尼多, the common prefix of the names of this Pokémon evolutionary line, and 王后, meaning Queen.
  • Chinese (Hong Kong): 尼美后 (Ni Mii Hou) - A portmanteau of 尼美, the common prefix of the names of this Pokémon evolutionary line, and 王后, meaning Queen.
